Re: About Jackson?
One last time for everybody that still doesn´t understand how Jackson and Seymour Duncan prices (
from US dealers!) work after all these years and explanations:
Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (aka. MSRP or "Retail"): Exactly that, a SUGGESTION, but a priice that nobody ever pays unless they´re absolutely new to earth or very desperate for that particular product.
Minimum Advertised Price (aka. MAP for short): The absolute minimum that the product can be advertised at, in print, internet or other media, including the sticker /Tag on the guitar. BTW this also includes people posting their sales price online in forums, which is the main reason that nobody will tell you exactly who sold them their USA Jackson for under 1500$. This is also the price that most big box stores charge.
Actual sale price: The really good deal that you get when you get your lazy ass off the MF site and on the phone to a good reputable dealer such as
www.mattsmusic.com,
www.themusiczoo.com,
www.vwallguitars.com or
www.onlinestagegear.com. These are the exact prices that nobody posts online, esp. not with direct reference to the dealer, because they can literally lose their dealership over someone posting price and dealer
Ok, I went to the shop today, they only had a DKMG that was Japan but they told be (both persons there) that the DK-2 that comes here (up until now anyway) is Korea, not Japan.
I told them that it was supposed to be Japan and they were as baffled as I am.
They said they'll get some more in a couple of months and we'll see then.
In the meantime does anyone know of someone I could verify this with?
I'm talking about the previous DK2s, the ones with Duncan Designed pickups.
Again, even the earliest DK2s (which were 100% identical in spec to the current ones save that the new ones have duncans and a slightly improved trem) were MIJ. I sold literally dozens the first few years while I still had my shop, because over here the Import-USA price gap is significantly larger than unthe USA. The Korean plant was closed down in ´98 and took the resulting crappy "Performer" line with it (the first year of performers were the successor to the "Concept" series, and were also MIJ as well as good guitars. The korean plant just flat out sucked :laugh2: ).
JCMI currently operates manufacturing facilities in the USA (Jackson USA Select, Jackson Custom Shop, Charvel, Grover Jackson USA), Japan (Pro series, MG series, X series, Pro Series Artist Signatures, Jackson Stars, Grover Jackson) and India (JS Series).
If you want to verify this, you can send a letter to

and hope for an answer.
Otherwise the Jackson/Charvel Forum @
www.jcfonline.com is the best resource on Jackson guitars on the net. Most of us have been afficionados and /or collectors for significantly longer than the current pro series has been around, and many of us have inside contacts as well
