About SSL-4T

Re: About SSL-4T

- Are similar to Schecter monstertone F500T ?

Same basic idea. Dual output Stratocaster. The Schecter gives two flavours of Knopfler.

- There is much difference (vol) between full coil and tapped coil?

I surely hope so. The idea is for the full output to give greater drive through valve amplification plus a reduction in high, squealy frequency content for smother overdrive. The tapped output should give a more traditional bright, clear Fender-y tone.

Excessive compression and/or digital modelling processors will negate the differences.

- Pots: 250K or 500K?

I'd go 250k first. Depends on the construction details of the host guitar.

- With these pups I can approach this sound?

Depends upon many factors. What amplification and/or pedals do you use?

Re: About SSL-4T

I found online some informations about Monstertone and Knopfler:
- the first knopfler's sunburst schecter (used for Making Movie LP - in the track *tunnel of love* - ) had not tapped pickups. That guitar was stolen and replaced with another build by Tom Anderson and John Suhr - with monstertone F500T - . So *tunnel of love* that we can hear on original Making-Movie LP it was played with full coil pups not similar to a bell tone (I've always thought, now I have a evidence :P)
- Schecter monstertone F500 are with ceramic magnets...

Anything change?

ops...
Now I play with a peavey classic 50/212 and nova system in S/R.
Ernie ball volume (guitar---vol---amp) and... stop :D

Yes. Ceramic magnets usually come in bar format only. The Schecter Monstertone pickups would, therefore, most probably be constructed with slug polepieces and an underslung bar magnet.

The SD Quarter Pound pickups use polished Alnico rod magnets, mounted between the vulcanised fibreboard plates in the traditional way.

Re: About SSL-4T

The SSL-4 are a bit dark and mushy with 250K pots. With 500K pots they are more dynamic, but they are hard and bright. I added a resistor to a 500K pot to bring it to 375K and that was the right balance between bass, treble, attack and smoothness but the taper of the pot was screwed up.
