Absolute Tuning Stability?

I've stretched the strings, tightened the tuners and lubricated the nut slots and the saddle slots with oil.

What else can I do to keep my guitar in tune?

Re: Absolute Tuning Stability?

There are some nut materials you should not oil. If your nut slots are not shaped correctly with actual nut files, lubing them won't be much help. Are your tuners good quality? What kind of guitar are you having the trouble with?

Re: Absolute Tuning Stability?

Plus then there's the stringing technique.

But what guitar is it??? That might help with typical sources of detuning.

Re: Absolute Tuning Stability?

If I had the money I would have a bunch of evertunes on everything I own. One for each tuning.

Re: Absolute Tuning Stability?

IME properly cut nut slots make the biggest difference.

If this is your LP, what tuners does it have? Current production Grovers are OK, but they aren't what they used to be. If it has 'Gibson Deluxe' tuners... Gibson actually uses two completely different Gibson Deluxe tuners. One has a push-in bushing like actual Klusons, and are supposedly made by Gotoh. I have a set of those on my 335 and they're excellent. The tuners on my SG Standard OTOH used a screw-in bushing with a 10mm hole. That guitar wouldn't hold tune for **** because the posts of those POS tuners wobbled. BrianS installed a TUSQ-XL nut along with a set of Gotoh SD90 locking Klusons and the tuning is rock solid now.
