AC-Tone questions...

Hey guys! Been MIA awhile ...working to much...which is a good thing!

anyways, I've got a gig where I need some VOX action. Slightly broken up, sweet tones without too much balls. Just a nice broken up tone. I've been debating picking up a Dr Z Mazarati for this job, but in the mean time I'd like to be able to make one of my current amps do the job.

The AC-Tone seems like a great option and I know everyone digs the Plexitone. Anyone have any negative comments about the AC? Would the AC-Tone work better with my very Fendery sounding Mesa clean channel, or with my DSL?

Any other thoughts on getting good Vox tone from a pedal?

Thanks!

Mike

Re: AC-Tone questions...

I would use the DSL. My reasoning is the el 34's. British sounding as opposed to the 6l6 mesa.
good luck, I know someone else knows more

Re: AC-Tone questions...

I think it will be useful on both, as I did alot of amp swapping with this sucker!
Hoss will get his soon, albeit his has the second channel hotrodded for more gain, the first is like the normal production model.

Re: AC-Tone questions...

Cool...I'll have to try it out...I love the dual gain setting thing. Are both gain's identical just with independent gain, or are the channels a bit different (on stock ones, of course). Is the gain mod something I could handle myself (I've modded lots o' pedals and amps)?

Thanks!

Mike

Re: AC-Tone questions...

Identical.
If you have a LP the gain mod is not needed:)
Otherwise just change the potmeter, but it will void any garanties, and the PCB is easy to ruin when you will attempt to remove the old potmeter.
But if you mannage it without any troubles, then just get a 500Kohm pot for it.
