AC30CC2 modding

Hi there.

I'm planning on changing tubes and do the bright cab mod on my AC30CC2 amp. There is now a full Tung-Sol tube set in there but they are old and they sound a little harsh/bright.. i'll change them all to a full new JJ tube set. However..

I read somewhere on the net that someone did a full vintage mod service job on this amp and changed it to a more vintage AC30. I'm not planning on changing all the components but will changing the tone caps to Mustard SoZo caps(original values) change the sound or is this just something a 'audiophile' will hear ? I'm not sure if this will improve the sound/quality of the amp...

Thanks a lot.

Marco

ok thanks for the reply. I think i'll leave it as it is.

one other question about the bright cap. I have read that a 68pF value is a more pleasant vintage value.. how about making a switch to it? on/off toggle switch.

up= no cap
down=68pF cap

see attachment.. will this work ?

You could do it more simply using a SPDT switch. Pull C13 out, wire the input to one side, then solder one leg of a 68pF cap to the outside lug, then solder wires from the center lug and the other leg of the cap to the other side of C13. Then in one position, you're connecting the outside lug to the center lug, which will short the cap, and switching it puts the cap in the circuit.
