Acid Drum Loops

Re: Acid Drum Loops

ACID is the company, and the loops are samples of different rhythms. Some are drums, some are bass, some are horns, some are mixed instruments.
When you use the ACID system, you can mix loops together and make rhythm tracks, or full songs.

I use mainly one-shots and piece all of the parts together. I just use drums and bass.

Re: Acid Drum Loops

Acid is a nice loops n samples editor/timeline, but can also allow you to record (your guitar) right in there next to it. Then record the next guitar pass, and another until...

Re: Acid Drum Loops

Are they typically recorded with a set tempo, or will it "self-adjust" if you're recording software (Guitar Tracks Pro 3 in my case) has a feature for changing tempos?

Re: Acid Drum Loops

i use cubase now, so this might be a bit rusty, but if i remember correctly: Let's say you have 10 min worth of a 8sec loopable clip on your drums track, you can double the tempo within ACID and it will eat through the 10 min in half the time. Once you're happy with the groove feel, you can record the guitar track next to it. if you then fiddle with the master tempo, then your guitar pitch /pace will change. It also has a feature that forces the new recording to adhere to the tempo. I tried that and it just kinda made my guitar sound all chipmunk. I also had latency issues with acid, where i'd play in time with the groove i was hearing while recording, but then when playing back the result, it would be fractionally late. Better soundcard solved this a bit, but cubase seems a better choice. For really interesting loop based fiddling, look at the truely awesome "ableton live" http://www.ableton.com/
It really is very cool, and dead simple and powerful too. Tempo changing, without altering pitch, so simple.

Re: Acid Drum Loops

OK, let me jump in the bandwagon...

So basically, what software do I need to use acid loops to create drums and bass tracks? Acid Pro 5.0 for instance? Is that what you use to create your track Stevo?

Thanks!

Re: Acid Drum Loops

I have ACID Music 4 (the cheap version) and I got 2 CDs with just drums and bass loops and one shots.
The drum loops CD is very cool, with quality samples. It's called "Drum Tools", and it was recorded by the drummer for "Roxette". You can buy it off of the Sonic Founry site.

Stevo, do you think it's possible to make brutal metal drum traks with that package? I'm talking 8th note triplets at hyperspeed and whatnot. Are the one-shots sort of a cut a paste deal?

Re: Acid Drum Loops

Thanks Stevo, that's what I was looking for... as well as a cheaper Acid version :D

Re: Acid Drum Loops

Matt - my drum package is not the best for metal, but you could make it work. The sonicfoundry site has some sound bites that you can check out.

Here is some free stuff.
