Acoustic/Electric Hybrids?

Re: Acoustic/Electric Hybrids?

I have a Brian Moore chambered electric w/ RMC piezos and synth output. The piezos really need some EQ, compression, & reverb to sound their best- as well as going into a full range amp (not a guitar amp).
Agreed and this is why I recommended the Carvins as the on board electronics for the acoustic side are the best I have tried. I ran the electric side through a real tube amp and the acoustic side through a Baggs Paracoustic into the house and it KILLED with both the DC 400 ad the AE 185. Those have a blend control that lets you dial in both on the fly that really works well. Nothing else I have tried is even close.
Only reason I sold them off was I play almost exclusively in Churches doing Worship stuff and with the sounds guys i was dealing with could never get a house / amp mix where I could really use the system in my monitors. Now with in ears I have control of that mix so will at some point buy another Carvin with the acoustic bridge.

Just to throw this out there...I just bought an Eastman E8D (sounds very much like a Martin HD28 for a fraction of the cost) and with a Bill Lawrence A300 pickup it sounds killer. Through my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe I can get acoustic cleans and can also get some serious gain as the Lawrence does not feedback on me. I personally will be using this for rhythm and lead, it gets a killer acoustic and electric tone.

Re: Acoustic/Electric Hybrids?

I've been reading all the reviews I can find on Fishman, RMC, Baggs, and the Graphtech offerings and the options are mind boggling and the reviews are all over the place.

Many people complain that the Fishmans are thin and brittle sounding but I think they sound great on my Breedlove. Now that I've discovered that all I needed was a lighter string gauge on the acoustic my desperate search is over, but all this research and the comments in this thread have stirred some serious gas for an electric with a decent acoustic tone option. The cheapest way out will be for me to buy the Graphtech Ghost system with Acousti-Phonic preamp and add it to one of my project Strats.

By the way, the D-Tar system looks great but it looks like that would have to be built in during the manufacturing process of a true acoustic. The idea of the adjustable blending of a piezo bridge pickup with an internal mic is very appealing.
