I have been thinking it would be cool to buy one of these Galveston guitars, put an upgraded neck and pups on it. Also change out the cheaper controls if need be.

Re: Acrylic Body Stratocaster

Great idea DLT. Ive thought of that myself, Itd be like trying to turn a silk purse inoto sows ear imo. Just rawk it as is and enjoy, unless you want to try and mate a neck onto that body which would require a considerable amount of work i think. I doubt a regular strat nbeck would go right on and work right. I'd go with STs4- clasic stacks if you want to, but they'd cost more than the whole guitar. I dont think that peice of plexiglass is as substantial as a Dan Armstrong piece.

Re: Acrylic Body Stratocaster

I need a new body for one of my strats, and that looks pretty awesome. Do any of you guys know where to get just a body?

Re: Acrylic Body Stratocaster

Lucite body, modulus graphite neck, aluminum pickguard and active pickups.

Re: Acrylic Body Stratocaster

It would be pretty stupid of them not to make it with a Fender-spec neck pocket.

Just saying that the stuf like the Fender Chinese Hello Kitty is definitly not Fender Std spec. This Galveston Lucite guitar is the cheapest of cheap chinese "strats", and one should not assume you can bolt up a MIM neck to it without expensive luthiery work to the neck ( which would devalue the neck of course in the process). Its be better to set up the neck on it..like people do with the Kitty I guess( and its just a guess, cause I don't know). As i mentioned Im certain its not a nice crafted Lucite "Dan Armstrong" type body ( which arent cheap by any means), but a thin cheap light Lucite body; how could it be at that price?
Snowdog as far as Modulus Graphite necks, that'd be cool, but ive heard dismal reports on them regarding fit and finish and Customer satisfaction with the company and their willingness to stand behind their product. In Fact, I've heard disastrous reports in general, but that was last time I checked, cause I was considering one, and what I found out made me run the other way fast!. Check it out thouroughly before you commit.

I would be afraid of any other pickguard in fear the screw holes would not line up. You'd be able to see it from underneath if you had to redrill. I am fussy about stuff like that.

Re: Acrylic Body Stratocaster

Good thing the boddy is thiner. I tried an acrylic Ibanez once, the bloody thing was HEAVY...

Clear pickguard, HH (or HSH ) pup setup (for some reason I'm picturing them with pup rings a la Maiden), a few of those off brand clear speed knobs and it will rock. HARD.

Why not custom order it?

Just make a tracing of the original pickguard and order the new one based on the tracing!

I tried that with a 1977 Les Paul pickguard. The screw hole is in a slightly different place than the new Gibson pickguards.

I made a perfect tracing. Sent it in and got back a pickguard that was off. :banghead:

That is why I need another. Anybody have an original 77 LP pickguard in the color cream?

Who'd you order through, just for the record?

Re: Acrylic Body Stratocaster

i tried out the Dan Armstrong and some acrylic BC Riches. acrylic sounds very nice! i'm suprised it isnt used more. i wonder if it looks like **** after about a month of regular use though...all those small circular "scratches" that you see in a wood guitar's finish under the light would ruin that totally see through vibe

Re: Acrylic Body Stratocaster

hm BTW, do galveston guitars have a good rep? just wondering since their prices are ridiculously cheap, even for a carved top set neck LP style guitar

Re: Acrylic Body Stratocaster

I would just get an body carved of ice and either play it in the freezer or enjoy for however long till it melts. I know..Im no Empty pockets...

I think If you could go through a bunch, to check the neck to see if it was made good and did a few mods, it could be a decent guitar.

I still would want a different neck, just to get that danged name off from it.
