Active bass electronics

...I have fallen love with the neck of the Eagle, 26 frets, i can do 3 octaves on one string! I think it's a c-shaped, it just fits perfect in your hand and you glide like a king! :13:

?? You sure? 3 octaves is 36 Frets. On 26 (which I see the bass as having) you can "only" go 2 octaves plus a full step ;)

As far as the electronics go: Sure, all you have to do is replace the pickups and electronics with passive ones. Yoiu may even only have to shed the electronics because the pickups are already passive.

I personally prefer active on bass, because as a bassist an active Eq is essential IMO. I feel that otherwise you lose tons of versatility ;)

One question, though: With Thurisarz in Sweden and Norm in the UK (which I know for a fact is true), doesn´t it strike anyone as odd that they shop at the same guitar store?? Or am I just misunderstanding this??

Not like I care or think it´s some funky conspiracy or something, just struck me as odd ;)

*EDIT* Just saw, Norm seems to have been in stockholm recently ;)

yeah man, open, 12, and 24. :22: .......but i totally agree with you about the versatility of active pickups on bass.

but hey thurisarz, why not go with some variety of your basses? have like a passive p bass, an active bass, an acoustic bass, etc.

Re: Active bass electronics

about the batteries, if you play every night for 4 hours 5 days a week 50 weeks a year, the batteries suck. In other words-active electronics are bad for gigging musicians. I never liked em tonewise either. If you want a meaty tone for slap, get quarter pounders or something.

Re: Active bass electronics

"Active Electronics" sounds to me that it's just an active pre-amp. So, taking that out, or bypassing it, wiring the already passive pickup to new knobs sounds like what you will have to do.

And I respectfully disagree with QuenchoO92 about active pups or pre-amps. In fact, many many many gigging bassists would as well.

Active electronics are a way of life for many bassists.

But, different strokes for different folks, as they say.

Re: Active bass electronics

I took the battery out yesterday and i lost a whole lot of volume, but hey, it did sound better to me! Just crank the volume knob and rock the socks!

I suspected that you would lose some volume but that it would still be useable. Generally speaking you will find that active basses do have more tone and flexibility (I use them as well) but sometimes and more often than not a good old Precision or Jazz will do just as good. I also use a pre-amp when using my non-active basses - Sans Amp Bass Driver that can go directly into the desk, amp or into the PA - this gives me the ability to shape my tone a lot better and you might want to investigate this when you got your P bass.

I have to replace my batteries in my active basses about every 2-3 months even if I don't use them as they do lose their current - don't ever use re-chargeable ones.

...and no conspiracy I was in Stockholm last week as I was covering for a good friend who had to go home to Germany because of some problems. As I said earlier I should have arranged to met up with Thurisarz and seen him, but I had no access to the web and did not have his details. However next time I am hoping that something will be sorted out.

Re: Active bass electronics

I just picked up a 1977 J-Bass yesterday that someone had put EMG's in. The thing sounds like God. Looks like hell, but sounds like God. I'm not thinking that it'll change my "style" any at all, nor will it affect me creating my own "sound" with it. The EMG's simply bring out the best in the bass. Not a bad deal for $400. Really.
