What does it mean to have active EQ? on my JSX the eq on the gain channels is all active and i dunno what difference it makes from the passive clean channel eq.. can someone point out the differences for me please?

Re: Active EQ

AFAIK, a passive EQ can only take away from an existing signal, so if you have everything on 10, the original signal is let through - while an active EQ can even boost certain frequencies so you can get a stronger signal than before.

Re: Active EQ

that's right! Active EQ is more sensitive to changes and it's easier to setup the tone control "wrong" ;). Afaik it's a good advice to start at 12 o'clock. BTW I played the JSX and loved it with my guitar loaded with a JB. It cuts like sh...

Yup. generally with the EQ controls at 12 o'clock the bass, mid and treble "boost/cut" is 0, So it's what that amp truely sounds like if it were to have no EQ controls(technically  ) ..

So anything Past 12 o'clock increases the gain of the frequency and anything before 12 o'clock impedes the frequency.( at least for most amps with Active Eq that is the case)

Re: Active EQ

Above 5 boosts, below cuts. That's basically all it is.
