Active vs Passive installation

Are there any difference regarding installation between passive and active pups? How exactly is the battery wired with two active pickups together?

thanks

Re: Active vs Passive installation

Welcome to the forum. The main difference is just connecting the power wire to the pups, then connecting the power ground through a stereo jack.

Look at this diagram to see what I mean:

2active_hum_2vol_2tone_3wy

Once you get the power sorted out, the rest is similar.

And, almost forgot, you should change the volume and tone pot values.

Re: Active vs Passive installation

Hey Artie...thanks for the reply.

Looking off that diagram...it seems that there are less wires to solder compared to passive ones. The red is the power, the bare is the ground and the leads are the white wires. My ibanez has only 1 vol pot and 1 tone pot. And I'm guessing with actives you cant split the coils...so I'm going for a 3 position lever switch.

So I should only be concerned with the white wire for the actually output for the pickups? And what values pots should I change too?

And is shielding required for active pups?

thanks again for newbie help...
