Adam Jones pickups.

Re: Adam Jones pickups.

Change that A8 and Dimebucker you have to Antiquites, play through your Dual Rec, and see if you notice a difference. ;)

Adam's a JB user and has been for a long time. That's all you really need to know about his pickups.
^ i think he means when running a marhall and an ENGL and whatever else in parallel; though you probably would notice a difference, especially in the low end

word on the street is that he used to use a combination of marshall and mesa, along with a pickup that may or may not have been a JB, that may or may not have had a ceramic mag swapped in since...
: private:

i lent my JB-equipped LP to a friend once when he broke a string on one his floyded ibanez and didn't have a back-up; he ran this into a triaxis into a simulclass 2:90, and nailed the stinkfist tone.
total overkill for a covers band playing pubs, but sounded pretty good.

certainly made his ridiculously expensive ibanez look pretty crap.

Re: Adam Jones pickups.

I have heard more than once that Adam switched to Distortions, at least in the bridge position a year or so ago...

However before that I can assure he used JB's...I know that for a fact!;)

As for the neck pickup during the JB time it was indeed a Jazz, and I think he laft the Jazz pickups in when he switched the bridge to Distortions however it matters very little except in the studio...he uses the neck pickup a little in the studio but never live, in fact he turns the neck volume to 0 live and uses the 3 way as a kill switch.

As for the rest of his gear, he might not give out all the details but some stuff has gotten out...lots of big amps...Dual Rec, Diezel, Sunn Beta Lead/Bass and a vintage plexi Super Bass are among his go to amps...add a Les Paul and some choice pedals and you've got it!

I don't know where you got that info, but thanks a lot! :yourock:

Re: Adam Jones pickups.

What about this: JB-4 in the bridge and SH-2 in the neck? (I play in black metal band heh. So SH-2 in the neck will proberly not be a bad thing. Does anyone know if that is a good clean pickup to?)

Is that a good combo that could get a good Jones tone?

Re: Adam Jones pickups.

snippet form an article I read a while ago fromt he producer of 10 000 days . doesnt get into pickups but gives an idea on how complex his amp set up is

The signal chain for tracking guitar was a bit complex. “Adam would play into whatever pedals he needed,” Barresi says. “That signal then went into a Systematic Systems Splitter. Then it would go to between three and five heads. The signal from the heads went to their own individual cabinets. Each cabinet had two or three microphones on it. Then all the microphones came back to the console, and they were blended down as separated for each amp. The Diezel amp went to its own track. The Marshall amp went to its own track. The third track was a blend of the Bogner and the Rivera, or whatever I liked for the song. And that would be one take — three tracks of guitar.”

whole article is here of you wanna read

Adam Jone's tone does not good black metal tone make.

I know. But I got two guitars... Just gotta fix the other one first hehe...

Which of 'em? One or two?
1. SH-4 (bridge) and SH-2 (neck)?
2. SH-2 (Bridge) and SH-4 (neck)?

Re: Adam Jones pickups.

Nah, I was just being a dick, Sh-2 bridge and Sh-4 neck for black metal is just such a ridiculous option I couldn't resist egging it on

Re: Adam Jones pickups.

JB in the neck isn't that obscure, a few metal guitarists have used JB in both positions (though more usually JB in bridge+middle than bridge+neck), or Distortion+JB neck.

That said... I put an A3 in the JB I'm using in neck, and swapped the screws under the low strings to 0.5" hex screws.
