Adding a jack/plug speaker connection to an amp?

With an amp that has two wires going from the unit straight to the speaker without going through a jack, if I'd like to have a jack/plug connection to be able to connect the unit to a different speaker or cab, is it as simple as cutting the wires and installing a jack at the unit end and a plug at the speaker end or is it more complicated?

Where's the best place to install the jack at the unit end? Does that make sense to anyone? :)

Thanks in advance.

It is pretty much that simple. If it was me, I'd pull the chassis and look for a blank spot to drill out the hole for the jack.

Yup, it's pretty simple. The positive goes to the tip, the negative goes to the ring. also, make sure the speaker impendance matches up on your amp and the new speaker cabinet so you dont hurt your amp.

Actually, you can do a reverable modificatin here. Just get some speaker cord (lamp chord) and make a short "y" cable. Then when (if) you deciude to sell the amp you can simply undo it with no extra holes.

Thank s lot for the answers guys. It was obvious but I just wanted to be sure I wouldn't hurt the amp.
