Re: Adding Beef to Strat Pickups?

One more update:

I put a Surfer neck and a Surfer Custom bridge (the hotter one) in the guitar. All the stuff that has been written about the Surfers is true. They definitely have more beef than the other set (by design, I think) and give me the sound I was looking for. I only got to play the guitar for a bit, but the instant gratification factor was very high. :)

I wasn't sure if I should go for the regular bridge or the hotter one. The hotter PU doesn't sound out of place compared to the other two and the bridge/middle position sounds pretty authentic but with a touch more bottom. I have a very specific idea of how I want that position to sound (like Big Star), so I'll have to figure out if the hotter PU is the way to go or if I want to try the stock Surfer bridge.

I put a blender pot in there as well; very nice. :)

Thanks, guys. Lots of good advice.

In a zen-like moment, I stopped thinking about what I expected the guitar to sound like and actually listened to what the guitar *does* sound like. And it sounds really, really good.

So I should say I'm sorry to waste everyone's time! :laugh2:

Unfortunately, it was crap, as I ended up switching the pickups anyway! Zen schmen! :laugh2:

Unlike most things, you are allowed to go back on your word in the community of GAS. It is perfectly fine to like a pickup one day and love another the next!

You can't go wrong with the Ant II's - they are brilliant pickups and sound 99.9% like we (the collective Users on this Forum) expect a Strat pickup to sound like. Good choice.
