Adding glow in the dark fret markers

A Ficus
So i got a sweet Ibanez Twelve String last summer
but it took a bang in shipping and lost a fret marker
it was too nice to send back

I thought about trying to match it with something else.
Then thought hey i can do it better

I can get glow in the dark 3D print filament and make it glow.

Then i thought heck lets change them all
The ones beyond the 12th fret were too hard to get to so i stopped there

I got a small hand drill off Amazon, match the drill size with the filament. Did a test on a bench in the yard.

it really doesn't take much ro drill out the markers . Just start on top of the marker and go slow , you will see the white mrker in little curls
Not super deep either

my hand started to cramp after four so take your time

A spot of wood glue on a plate was all i needed

Slip into the hole and cover with tape to clamp it till the glue dries

I left a quarter inch sticking out for for the clamp

When it dries im the morning i will trim it with my little flush cutters and sand it wit an Emory board

Ill post pics in a bit

What an interesting project! I had some side markers replaced with Luminlay, which is like super glow in the dark stuff. It lasts a few hours.

just trimmed off the excess:

removed the tape

used the flush cutters to level them out

then a scrapped them with a razor blade until smooth

if anyone needs some of the filament
I have 500 foot roll

used less that 3 inches for this project

the octave dots were not exactly lined up together

You are braver than I was. I couldn't trust myself to drill out the old ones properly (or straight).

Ok, these are needed for me.

I play in one group that plays on very dark stages with select spotlights happening and Im playing often by feel alone -but would be nice to have occasional ability to visually orient

PLz you post a pic in the dark when you are done!
