Advice me on a overdrive/distortion pedal...

........i am searching for a pedal to get a little bit more gain from my amp and obtain a slight volume boost during solos. I must say that untill now i have never used pedals and i have always relied on the amp to get my distortion tones.....so i do not have any knowledge on overdrive/distortion pedals.
Do i need an overdrive or a distortion pedal? Can you suggest me one out of the boss zone? I would prefer one that is quite transparent and that does not influence the amp eq.....i only want it to ad a little more gain and a slight volume boost.......

Just the usual suspects:

Boss DS-1 or Duncan Pickup Booster. Those are my two favorites for a boost.

The DS-1 rocks a little harder but the Duncan Pickup Booster is cleaner and more transparent.

DS-1? I would have thought a blues driver or a yellow OD pedal would have suited from the boss camp, rather than a Distortion box...

Re: Advice me on a overdrive/distortion pedal...

I don't use the DS-1 to boost distortion. I set it so I can leave it on all the time and when I lower the volume on my guitar to 5 get a cleanish rock tone and when I trun my guitar up get a more overdriven rock tone.

Most guys stomp on it to get distortion and then stomp on it again to turn it off and get a clean tone.

But Satriani and Vai use/used one the way I do.

I think of it as tone conditioner or something...not as a distortion or overdrive pedal.

Used the way I use it, it'll smooth out and improve the tone of just about pedal plugged into it...even a Big Muff.

I use the Jekyll side of my Jekyll & Hyde for a boost, I can then set an additional drive setting on the Hyde side.

A Duncan Pickup Booster sounds like it would fit the bill, or a Fulltone Fatboost.

I use the Duncan Pickup Booster....Very transparent...Great pedal overall...

Try a EH double muff (on single setting) or a Vox Valve tone (rare but sweeeeeeeeet!!)

I own a ValveTone 810....Nice pedal and yet another "Tube Screamer" clone.... :smack:

Haven't tryed any of the recent EH stuff though....Thought about putting an "English Muffin" into a nice "Big Muff" though! :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :newangel:

Great pedal....It's a Tube Screamer with a different "tone stack"....Otherwise it's another TS copy!

It's just milder in the mids and the lows, but it's still a TS...Just has a different eq is all...

Re: Advice me on a overdrive/distortion pedal...

I would put a Fulltone Fat Boost or a Duncan Pickup Booster in the FX loop. Clean volume boost, tones of headroom ... works a treat. :)

A friend of mine has just lent me an Ibanez Tube King ( I'm going to sell a kidney for it!! )

I think they are discontinued now but oh my god!!!! :newangel:

Re: Advice me on a overdrive/distortion pedal...

I really like the Fulltone Fulldrive II, and I've been able to tweak it to give me exactly what I want regardless of what amp or guitar or situation I'm in so far. It is the most versatile overdrive/distortion I have.

The Marshall BB looks interesting, I have the Marshall Jackhammer and I like it a lot but the Fulltone Fulldrive II is in a different class. I've had it for about six months now and it always earns it spot on the pedal board.
