First things first-

What is you pickup configuration now? You need to talk about the guitar as it is and what you want more if you expect any advice.

It has a neck and a bridge dmarzio dactivators...
It's basswood body with 3 way switch and volume and tone pot

How is the cavity? Is it HSH routed ?

leave it alone then. I have a HSH 7-string, but cannot say that I use the mid pup very often. Its ok for the rare occasions I will play some clean stuff (not that the rest of pups cannot handle this), but nothing I couldn't live with.

What guitar/maker/model do you have?

I have tow 7 strings....a PRS and a Jackson as a spare or a secondary...I ws planning to mod the Jackson

I play a little jazz and blues too ...so the single really helps...even as a standalone would be nice ...with separate controls just for it

Instead of adding a single, why not just add push\pulls to ether split or series \parallel the existing pickups?
