Hello everyone, did some research and I still cant fine a answer to this question. I recently saved enough money to invest in some quality Mogami cables. I was wondering with the rigors of gigging and home set up etc.. how do people protect the tips (jack plug/connector) of cables? I've seen people just throw cables anywhere and I used to have cheap cables so I never worried about the tips being scratched or collect dust etc.. But I was searching for some kind of covering for connectors and haven't found any. So I'm I just being paranoid?

Welcome to Prestige goods/First World issues :lmao: -AKA unreasonable paranoia.
Just over/under wrap them into coils that match the natural twist of the cable's internal dialectric material after use (google over/under coiling) and clean the jacks once a year with isopropyl alcohol and you are done.
Don't think any more about it.

Before you plug them into your guitar, loop the cable through your strap. This way if you're not paying attention and wander to the end of your guitar cable, or if someone steps on it while you're moving around the stress from pulling it taught will not be placed on the connector (and guitar jack).

People who don't practice this are complete savages and psychos.
Before you plug them into your guitar, loop the cable through your strap. This way if you're not paying attention and wander to the end of your guitar cable, or if someone steps on it while you're moving around the stress from pulling it taught will not be placed on the connector (and guitar jack).

I am usualy more concerned about avoiding them getting twisted so I use the over/under method.

I also put a little velcro cable tie to keep them wrapped when stored in the bag.
If you are building the cables your self be sure you use quality connectors like Switchcraft, those can take a beating safely.
Always pull out of the guitar or amp by the connector, if you pull it out by the chord you run the risk of breaking the soldered connection in the inside.
Finally, don't step on them
Sounds silly but you can easily do this when pulling out all cables and leave them on the floor for a moment before you start wrapping them.
If you ever notice a a tip became a little loose you may feel tempted to keep using it until it breaks. Don't, it may break inside of your amp/pedal input and it can be tricky to take it out. Just replace the connector, assuming you don't buy one of those cables with connectors "sealed" with molded plastic.

I bought a half dozen Lifelines guitar cables back in the 80’s. Gigged, toured, practiced, studio, outdoor festivals, wadded, twisted, stolen, recovered. No one will replace them because they still test good.
