Re: affordable tube amps

...but more to the point, what sort of music are you trying to play? For bedroom amps that can be gigged out with in the genre of classic rock and blues I would suggest the following:

Peavey Classic 30
Trace Elliot Velocette
Fender Blues Junior
Traynor YC20

Re: affordable tube amps

I'm definitely a tube amp bigot but for bedroom-level practice, I'd really suggest a SS/modeling amp. IMHO, very few tube amps sound good at bedroom practice volume levels. Those that do aren't very useful for much else because of their very low power.

Re: affordable tube amps

What kind of budget are we talking about?
For around $1k, you can use an Engl preamp directly into a cabinet ... most Engl preamps have a 1.5W SS power amp inside them, and act as the perfect bedroom rig! :D

What Alec said......check out the Tech21 Trademark 10 or the Trademark 60.

now, the trademark 10 is a good idea for ss amp!

since its for the bedroom, anything goes. more than likely i will be using a ds-1 modded by john for a dirty sound. most importantly is the price. value for money is the key.

Re: affordable tube amps

anyways, since we are on the topic of ss/tube amps, what do you guys think of the marshall avt 20/50?

Re: affordable tube amps

For practice playing. I would suggest a POD 2.0. Cheap off of Ebay. You can plug in headphones which is nice too. If you really like to hear it without headphones though, you can plug it into the insert on a small ss amp (Create or something) and not get any coloration from the amp. As far as purchasing an XT instead, the 2.0 is cheaper, and it will get you by with some good sound. That is if you are just using it for practice. If you want it as part of your main rig, then I would get the XT. It sounds better and has more features. Worth the extra bucks. :)

Re: affordable tube amps

I like the Blues Junior & with a modded DS1 you can cover alot of territory. Love mine. I do suggest you go and play as many possible before you buy. We all have different tastes. Good luck.

Peace,

Darrin

Re: affordable tube amps

thanks guys! but i will pass on the pod and engl. budget non permitting... i guess hybrid amps are everyone's poison! for my bedroom amp, i may go with blues junior for tube. i am afraid the classic 30 may be too big. mesa's f-30 is way out of my budget. the trademark 10 is a value-for-money option as well. any other recommendations bros?
