Alex Lifeson inspired Strat build

Re: Alex Lifeson inspired Strat build

Thanks Mincer! Sorry it took quite a few months to do this but with this move, everything got pushed to the right a few months.

Alex apparently used 4 Strats during the 1981-1984 time period. Here is the pic of him from the Moving Pictures era with the guitar I basically cloned.

Also, i ended up using the Super Vee trem on a different Mexican strat. Very impressed so far.

Re: Alex Lifeson inspired Strat build

The Super Vee is a great invention. It should be more popular than it is.

Im just now seeing this Eric and I think it turned out great man! I couldnt really think of a better project to use that Silverbird in. Did you learn a Rush song on it yet?

Re: Alex Lifeson inspired Strat build

Oh yes, i know quite a few Rush tunes....with that said, this thing turned out f'ing amazing! The SH-9 Silverbird is quite a bit more hot than i was expecting but its really cool for classic metal stuff. I think it will fit the bill as well with some knob tweaks for 80s Rush tones.

Re: Alex Lifeson inspired Strat build

whats the switching?

It is a 3 position gibson style switch that is actually for an amp. Down is bridge, middle is neck/middle, up is neck pickup. Just how Lifeson had his.

and WOW.......This is the best humbucker strat i have ever had. The Silverbird is a tone legend! Fat, yet very articulate and has quite a bit of highs as well. It fits the bill pretty well for what i was going for in this build. If i find more of these, i will buy every one (for a reasonable price that is).
