Re: All mahogany LP style axes
Do you mean the 57' LP Custom? The 57' Goldtop is a mahogany body with a maple cap... to my knowledge all carved top Les Pauls have a maple cap. The Customs are traditionally all Mahogany.
However, I don't find the LP Custom in all Mahogany to be dark or tubby at all. It's paired with an Ebony fretboard to help with high end, and IMO it's one of the sweetest sounds in rock and blues. Ace Frehely, Peter Frampton and John Sykes just to name a few greats are synonomus with the LP custom, and their tone is anything but tubby.
Customs are know for their biting type of attack. Combine all of this with the unlimited variety of pickups available today, and you can play anything from Gospel to Country to Rock to Metal with a Custom.
Definatly one of my favorite guitars, and the next one on my list to purchase.
