It's still being built. There are some work in progress pics here.

I'm going to start with the stock pickups, which are Antiquitys. If they're too thin (because of the longer scale length), I'll go put another thousand or so turns on the bobbin and try it again.

IMO, the best P90 sound comes from a slab mahogany body. Any of those Jrs, Specials or SGs would sound killer. I've got a LP with P90s in it and it just doesn't get that raw sound these pickups are famous for. I think the maple cap tames it down a little. You need a pizza paddle!!

That's why I bought my LP Special. I felt the basic design (all mahogany) is what makes it sound so good. My biggest fear with something like the Goldtops was that the maple top would make the top end a bit too bright (with the nature of single coils). The dark, warm presence of mahogany wood with the unique punch and sizzle of p90s just seems perfect.

It should be interesting how well the Grosh will sound with these Hybrid P90s. I don't have the perfect wood combination for 'em, but I'm hoping that the pickups can be tweaked to work almost as efficiently as the ones in the Gibson.

Jeff,

What would you think of a Hamer Special with SD P90 stacks in Cherry red?
There's one in my avatar that may have your name on it.

Peace,

Darrin
