Allparts neck

Re: Allparts neck

Set the nut action. I like .020" E - .016" e

I'm glad you like it.

But it's not relevant to anything. The depth of the nut slots will depend upon the fret size and any levelling that may have been done, primarily at the first couple of frets. Thus it's likely to vary from instrument to instrument, even on two identical instruments.

And if this guitar has an action approaching 1 Centimetre, fret levelling is unlikely to make much difference, there are clearly other issues that need to be diagnosed and corrected first. Fret levelling is something for fine-tuning playability once the action is 'in the ball park', and 1 Cm. is clearly not in that ball park.

Re: Allparts neck

Those nut height measurements are as conservative as you could possibly get. They will work on ANY guitar. It won't vary from instrument to instrument. You cut the nut slots after you level the frets.

I was saying the angle of the neck resulting from the neck joint is probably in the ballpark. You only need to shim if you can't get the neck bow right.

If the action has to be extremely high, uneven frets are the first culprit. I don't know why you're saying it won't make any difference when you can get each other part of the setup right - string height, neck bow, nut height. What else could possibly be causing the problem? What kind of agenda do you have (on a guitar forum ffs) to have to make up bs that will prevent this guy from correcting a simple issue?

I have no agenda, other than to try to get some facts through the drivel presented by people like yourself. Forty-five years of guitar playing and working on guitars (and amps) and a penchant for telling it like it is. I've never done anything else.

You should consider treading a little more carefully before you start calling me a bs artist. You seem a little too fond of the sound of your own voice.

Re: Allparts neck

Ok let's examine my "drivel":

1. Level frets
2. Set string height
3. Set neck bow
4. Cut nut slots
5. Set intonation

If this doesn't work, evaluate other options such as shimming.

There's nothing off base or incorrect about my advice, it will work on any reasonable electric guitar 100% of the time.
I have explained as clearly, correctly, and professionally as possible the procedure for getting a guitar to play perfectly.
What could possibly be going through your head to make you think you need to contradict or debunk factually correct guitar set up procedures?
