The A2Pro and the Jazz use the same coils...so an A2 Jazz would be an Alnico II Pro, as for an A2 59...I hear good things but I have not tried one yet...

Really? I'm plan on making a hybrid from a C5 & AII Pro. I'll use the old Jazz I have if it's the same as the AII Pro, except for the mag.
Did you hear this from someone at Duncan or some one else in the know? I've heard JB's and DD's use the same coils also.

Does anyone know how it sounds in the bridge? A bridge 59 with an alnico II magnet in the bridge?

I did an A2 59 bridge in a buddys guitar a while back...that guitar did the best EVH i'd ever heard from a "cheep" pickup...he had gone through several pickup's looking for "the one" he settle on the A2 59 and I have to say, it was a great sounding pickup.

That just can't be. I put an Alnico 5 in a an A2Pro once and it didn't sound ANYTHING like a Jazz. It had even more lows and low mids with the A5 in it than before, whereas the Jazz has less low/low mid than a stock A2 Pro.

Remember I tryed this combination in my Love Rock's bridge position and I went back to the A2 59/Custom Hybrid which I feel is alot better than the 59B period!

Not to worry, I'm about halfway through Rewind Gig #2 tonight anyway. Just want to know to be able to schedule things around these rewinds.
I think folks who say things like the Jazz and A2Pro are the same wind assume this because the two pickups have the same DC resistance or are very close.
The wind pattern will make all the difference in the world in the tone. Seymour (or even I) could wind you 10 humbuckers with the same magnet, same DC resistance and the same match (or mismatch) on the coils but we could make them all sound very different from each other by winding each with a different pattern (varying degrees of scatter vs. neat), different looseness or tightness, etc.

I can't speak to the Customs or the JB/Distortion deal, but I do know the Jazz and A2 Pro are different from direct experience.
Although I do suspect that the CC is wound a little darker than the C5, the different magnets notwithstanding, plus the DC resistance is slightly different from the other two.

Invader / Distortion / JB = Same coil, different magnet. Standard A5 = JB / Oversize Ceramic = DD / Oversize Cerammic w 2 additionaml ceramics Flanking the poles = Invader
This "rumor" actually didn´t start on the forum but is information given to us (or rather a member) directly from a Duncan Employee, IIRC Jessica the A+R Rep...
Some have taken theirs apart to see AFAIK, and the coil specs matched up 1:1 from what I remember, particularly guage, insulation and dc-res.
I don´t think it gets any more confirmed than that. Nor do I think that it could really be classified a rumor
