Alnico 2 Pro for Telecaster question

hey fellas,

I'm new here and building a custom Telecaster. I played the Fender Lite Ash Tele and fell in love with the sound the pickups make, and I was wondering - does the neck (rhythm) pickup attach to the pickguard or to the guitar body? On the Lite Ash Tele, it was attached to the body, but I looked at the pickup diagrams on the Seymour Duncan website and, just judging by the measurments and shape of the pickguard, I don't know if they are tall enough to mount to the body. After all, the Lite Ash Tele could have had that pickup mounting hole cut shallower or something. Any help would be obliged. In case you guys missed in the title bar, the pickup I am asking about is the Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro Rhythm for Telecaster, or (ATPR-1).

All Telecaster neck pickups can be mounted to the body (this is the way it used to be done, and is done on the vintage reissues, and vintage styled guitars) or with springs through the guardplate (this is the more modern way) it just depends on your neck pickup route, and what kind of guard plate. BTW, and IMO a Tele neck pickup sounds BETTER when mounted to the body...it is a pain in the butt to adjust the hight as you have to remove the guardplate, but I think it sounds better.
