I've got them in the Epiphone slash Les Paul. Fairly chunky, decent pups. I'm a fan of high output pickups though so these didn't really do it for me. I will give them another go sometime though, could pop a clip up maybe thats useful.
i tried a set in a les paul the other day. i was surprised because i really liked the bridge pu but did not like the neck, which was the exact opposite of what i thought i'd like. the bridge was warm and crunchy and really sounded nice. the neck was muddy and lacked the sweetness and clarity of, well, slash!
Actually that sounds like slash neck pup to me (muddy). His tone is not that articulate but more slurred like a southern drawl if that makes any sense when it comes to the neck.
different strokes for different folks i guess. i love slash's neck pu sound on AFD/Illusion, and the one i tried just did not capture what i liked about that tone at all. must need slashs hands and amp as well!
True, they're definitely not high output. They have a PAF-type wind and low output magnets.
A2 magnets have a lot of midrange, not much treble, a loose low-end, and a lot of rich texture.
That's great for some applications, but not for others. If you want more of a vintage rock and blues sound, Slash A2P's are very good. If you want a more modern metal sound, there are better choices.
After all these years, i ma still in love with my regular A2P set in my SG.
They didn't do it for me. Had them in my LP for about a day. They were too smooth and not PAF enough for me. I think the midrange being too bubbly and the lack of sizzle and PAF style punch were what I missed. They're punchy but not in the way any of my other PAFs are.
Which Duncan nails that classic PAF tone ? (...to your ears !)
Antiquities, Bonamassa's & 59's so far. I have Seth's and PG sitting in my room to throw in soon. I'm addicted. I LOVE the Dimarzio 36th as well and Burstbuckers do it really well too.
Thanks
. . . i have not hears a single negative comment about the Ants. I really need to try them soon !
Many talk about the undefined bass response. It's very vintage and doesn't hang with modern rock as well as non-aged buckers like the 59's and Dimarzio's and probably the PG/WLH sets.
