Alnico II Pro matched with a JB?

With Boxing Day sales, I thought it might be a good idea to pick up a different pickup. I'm not really feeling the DD-N matched with the JB, and the '59N was good, but there was room for improvement.

I'm wondering who has paired an A2P with the JB? Does the output balance? Does the voicing feel balanced?

I love the Air Norton in my Les Paul, but I don't want the same pickup in this guitar. I kinda want something different yet along the lines. What I want is something that has a softer top-end than the '59, but that's still not dark and wooly like the A5 DD-N. I want something that's less scooped and that has a less deep bass than the '59N.

Should I pick an A2P-N or an A2P-B up rather for it to have more room to play with pickup height?

Thanks! :)

I've matched an a2P with a Custom (TB5) and that matched fine.

The JB isn't hotter than the Custom, so you should be fine.

I wouldn't worry too much about voicing as there are PAF sets with even more wild voicing, and HSS guitars will ALL have worse voicing matchingI've matched an a2P with a Custom (TB5) and that matched fine.

I put an A2 magnet in a Jazz and didn't really care for it. Darker and weaker output, kind of spongy and mushy sounding. But some people like it a lot.

Have a Jazz with an A2 mag in one guitar with a Perpetual Burn and that combo works well. A JB should be a good match and if it's not, just swap the A2 for a A5 and make it a Jazz which is the combo in a Hot Rod set.

The A2P and JB was the standard set in USA-made Brian Moore guitars. The A2P has a very different tone, and it we don't hear it as the same volume as the JB due to the frequencies it pushes forward. But it works well if you want a slight volume boost when switching to the bridge (and a cleaner, more buttery sound when switching to the neck).

Yeah, output is what I'm most worried about. You have to really crank the '59 (or the Jazz) up for it to more or less balance with the JB, and it's A5.

But if it balances with a Custom, you're totally right. The JB isn't higher output than the Custom.

However... does the A2P fit my description of what I want? Mellower/softer highs than the '59, fuller lower mids, but not as deep lows?
