Alnico II Pro or SH-6 Duncan Distortion- HELP!!!

Not sure which pickup to put in my Les Paul Standard. I've got a Lollar Imperial in it, and though it sounds great and is sacrilege to swap out a "boutique" pickup, it still doesn't suit my playing. Play through a Mesa Single Recto head in a modern rock project and need more grit than the Lollar gives me.

Alnico Pro II or Duncan Distortion (paired with an SH-2 Jazz in the neck currently).

Duncan Distortion would probably be your best bet.

alnico 2 and distortion are two toatally different pickups....may I ask why you were considering the alinco 2? if I know why than you could get a better answer. a distortion pickup is uber agressive compared to the alnico 2. The alnico 2 is more on par with a vintage pickup....it is very tweakable when it comes to amps and effects....with amps and effects it can be crunchy and with them off it can be singing clean...this is why some people love it. either one is a very good pickup they are on two sides of the pickup spectrum though. alnico 2 is more tweakable and i think musical...but the distortion can be a in your face rock/metal pickup. Somtimes the clarity and snappiness of an alnico 2 pro makes up for grit because the attack is better it sustains fabulous too. soo yaa why were you considering these two totally different pickups? the distortion will deliver grit and then some no problem but the alnico 2 pro is a good pickup for rock and other styles as well...its just not a tank like the distortion...which also can get decent cleans (slight grit on those though)

The stark contrast between the two is what lead me to post this. Originally, I had a JB, but swapped it for the Lollar. The JB lacked clarity in string-to-string def, but the Lollar is COMPLETELY for vintage tastes and does it unbelieveable well. I use the volume knob quite a bit to clean up which draws me towards the Alnico (love Slashes tone) but I want to make sure I get some good clear, tight bass for the occasional palm-mute chunk (which lead me towards the SH-6). I'm unsure if the SH-6 will be too much, where the amp could certainly compensate using the Alnico II. Really just wish the Lollar had a bit more aggression because it would be ideal and adjusting doesn't quite get it there.
