Alnico II Pro vs Parralel Axis PA-TB1 - High Gain Rock

Hi there this is my first post!

Which pick-up would stay tighter/articulate under high gain amps like Mesa, Peavey, Splawn, Soldano ect ?

Basically for modern hard rock / metal tones that are really thick/aggresive/ but at the sametime remain clear/articulate.

basically GREAT string to string clarity.

I'm using a Gibson Les Paul Classic 1960 and my Splawn amp itself has awesome string to string clarity even on high gain settings, so I just want a pick up that will compliment it.

I don't need a pick-up for versatility, I play 90% high gain tones and the Splawn Pro Mod has a ton of great gain on tap.

The alnico 2 pro won't be tight under high gain, not like any ceramic pickup will be. I'm surprised that's one of the choices you came up with.

I'd say you should choose between the SD distortion (normal or parallel axis), dimebucker, custom, the Dimarzio Evolution, Breed or Super Distortion.

Doug Aldrich's tone (on the new whitesnake dvd)sounds really articulate and he uses a Mark Cameron modded Marshall with super high gain.

He uses an Alnico II pro in his Gibson, thats why i decided to ask : )

I also thought i read somewhere that Alnico II gets muddy if its got a high dc resitance. Looking at the Alnico II pro its pretty low.

The APH-1 does handle high gain very well. But I wouldn't call it an extremely articulate pickup under high gain. That would be reserved more for the Full Shred, Distortion and Custom. The APH-1 is very smooth and creamy. I love this pickup, but it wouldn't be my first choice for metal rhythms. I would actually use it more in the neck for smooth shred leads.

The PATB-3 Blues Trembucker model would be a good choice

hmm so its safer to say something with Alnico V like the PA-TB1 would be better for hardrock/metal rhythm high gain tones

Would have more string to string clarity in full chords and hold up better?
