Haven't posted here for awhile but wanted to give a" Thumps up" for Alnico ll Pro Bridge. Finally! Nice full bottom doesn't thin out. Great match for the PGn. Very underrated pickup!

Re: Alnico ll Pro

I love them too. I have been playing with an A2P in the bridge of at least one of my guitars for the past 8 years now. Glad you found a bridge humbucker you like.

Re: Alnico ll Pro

I love my A2 Pro neck and I've been thinking of replacing my Demon for a A2 Pro bridge.
I'm just hoping it won't be too soft or something. My guitar's bright enough as it is...
The A2 Pro has something magnificent going on in the high mids, the way it cuts smoothly. I'm hoping for that in the bridge as well.

I've also got a UOA5 magnet I could drop into the Demon and see what comes up. And a A8. Life's good with magnets around. :D

Re: Alnico ll Pro

Ya the high mids is what I like about it to. Very full ,enough Treble but not to much like the PG. How's the Neck vs the PG? Any experience with it? The wind is a little higher than any I've tried. PG /Seth.

I love the A2P neck personally. I have a guitar that has an A2P set in it, they play real nice together and it's quite an articulate neck pickup. Not as articulate as the Jazz but it's close to a PG neck without as much mids.

Re: Alnico ll Pro

AHP1 bridge is the only humbucker I can instantly think of that has the clarify I want on a 5 string low F chord under increasing gain. I call it the Keri Kelli chord.

I honestly didn't tinker enough with the Slash signature model to know whether it is different in a substantial way.

Re: Alnico ll Pro

Pgn + A2P bridge is a FANTASTIC combo for people who want a really been toned LP.
The PG neck is fairly bright and cutting, while the A@P is uber-fat.
You put the brighter pup in the neck, the darker pup in the bridge, and BAM - very cool tones.

And since they are both A2 mags - there is a certain something sillier about both.

Great set, well matched; the bridge is full and the neck has an edge to it (unlike PG's, which have too big a difference in EQ for my tastes).

Re: Alnico ll Pro

Well I think I'm gonna take a swipe at a neck, Pro also. The PG with it's brightness and them dropping down to the beefiness of the A2 Pro (as earlier stated}is very cool. Not like any combo I've tried yet. But it's so good on it's own the"what if" question ,is killing me! Maybe flop between the 2 from time to time.

Re: Alnico ll Pro

Curiously, I don't really dig Slash's tone at all. Not a fan of him.
But I bought my first A2 Pro neck just because, and I loved the A2 bloom and push instantly. Never had an Alnico 2 pickup before.
I like how it tames my guitar's attack, makes it a bit more refined without being dull in the slightest. Sounds wonderful split, too.
Great for all purposes, really.

I love the sound of the A2P neck split too. I don't use the split as much on the bridge unless I am playing surf or some Hendrix but it does sound good too.

Here is an A2P bridge I just recorded. I was just messin' around so don't expect anything I worked on or have been practicing. This was on my chambered mahogany/maple capped Warmoth with a 24.75" Indian rosewood Warmoth neck:

They are definitely SD's best "non-signature" humbuckers IMO. I think the bridge model is the best standard production bridge humbucker they make. For the neck, I like the Seth Lover a hair more.

A2Ps are the great "sleepers" of the Duncan humbucker lineup, because they are not really all that different than the great Slash, PG, or Seth pickups (well within the range of most amps' e.q. adjustment capabilities), but they are more affordable.

Re: Alnico ll Pro

I don't think of Slash's sound when I think APH.

Keri Kelli ear Alice Cooper is much more typical.

Re: Alnico ll Pro

The biggest reason why I like the Alnico II Pro and it's Alnico V cousin the Jazz is because I tend to play warm to balanced guitars with the 24.75" scale. This is why I shy away from pickups that have more mids because I like to control the mids with my amp's EQ relative to the natural mids of the instrument I am playing. I wish my phone recording captured the tone I am actually getting instead of sounding like a tin can recording but maybe I will get around to making some clips through the SM57 this upcoming weekend.
