hi

im interested in getting the alnico pro 2, mainly because slash has it and his guitar sound is my favourite. i was reading the description on the website about the distortion coming from the amp and not the pickups but im not sure what this means. can anyone explain what it says to me?

thanks

Re: alnico pro 2

Basically, distortion is the sound you get when you drive a stage of amplification beyond its ability to amplify. Thus, it "clips" off the top of the waveform. Since the waveform no longer matches the original signal, its distorted by definition. Since the signal coming off the pickup is the original source, it can't really be distorted. Its the original.

Distortion can be achieved in any stage of amplification. It can happen within a pedal, or it can happen in the amp itself if overdriven by an OD pedal.

Make sense?

BTW - The AII Pro is quickly becoming one of my favorite pups. Clean, clear, and snappy.

Just know that getting an A2P will not make you sound like Slash if you don't also have a Les Paul and especially an amp that gives you a Marshall JCM800 type of tone.

Re: alnico pro 2

It means these pickups are not high output and do not drive/distort the input of the amp. Pickups like the Duncan Distortion and Dimarzio Super Distortion are high output and were designed to drive the front end of the amp to make it distort easier. Vintage style pickups (like the A2P and '59) were not designed to do this so you have to rely more on the amp to get your desired level of distortion.
