Hi all!

I've got my Strat loaded up with SD Alnico Pro II's and love it. I'm considering the same pup's for a Gibson Les Paul Studio (Bridge & Neck). Anyone have any feedback on this combo? I know Slash uses it and of course it sounds great, but some other feedback is also much appreciated!

By the way, I play mostly classic rock, old metal and blues.

Thanks!

Matt

Re: Alnico Pro II's in a Les Paul

I really love the Alnico II Pro's. I have them in a Dean Hardtail, kind of inbetween a PRS McCarty and LP tonally.....it's the best set of pickups I own so far. I also have the APH in the neck of my double fat strat.

I can't recommend them highly enough. The next best thing IMO is a set of Seths. The Seths have a slightly more open, hollow PAF sound, but still very smooth. That is my 2nd favorite neck HB. Haven't tried the bridge Seth yet, but have a feeling I will love it when I do.

Re: Alnico Pro II's in a Les Paul

Loved the neck, hated the bridge. Neck had a bit of a single coil character to it, for better or worse. The bridge was useless for the hard rock / post punk I play, just not enough power to it, it may have been the rig though.

I also like the AP2 in the neck better than the bridge. How about a 59 (b)/ AP2 (n) combo?

Re: Alnico Pro II's in a Les Paul

I have an APHn combo paired with a CC at the bridge. It works great and the EQ curves match up well while still having a hot bridge position.

I use this in my EPI, but 59n and APHb
Great combo

I love the APH-1 in the neck position but I usually will match it with an SH-11 Custom Custom. YMMV....

Re: Alnico Pro II's in a Les Paul

Thanks alot for the feedback guys. I think I'm going to go with the Alnico Pro II for the Neck and the Custom Custom for the Bridge of my Les Paul. Looks like it will be a nice combo.

Custom Custom MAY be too much mids IMO. I prefer the 59 bridge with the Alnico II neck. Regular Custom is nice as well.

Tried the bridge, didn't like. Pleasantly suprised when I put a bridge model in the neck though, I think it sound great, very smooth, balanced and round.
