Alnico "Special"?

marketing! thats my guess too. "special" doesnt mean its actually special, but who knows

Agreed, I even said that I do understand if it's something they prefer not to share, but to get no reply at all sort of turns me off a bit. I think that pup (Patina) is essentially an SD Holdsworth style pickup with an A2, what I really want however is an RTM!

years ago, i bought a ton of magnets (at least for a small winder/hobbiest) from allstar magnetics, and still use those for all my pups. ive used magnets from other places and there seems to be a subtle difference

WoundUp, thanks for that! Pretty interesting, I guess we know at least what John Suhr means in regards to the Aldrich pup, I like watching stuff like this anyway, cheers!

Just let it be known that I'm still a HUGE fan of Alnico 5 for bridge pickups. Just swapped a Fluence Modern Alnico into the bridge position of my Gibbo.

Hah, funny how the zeitgeist works. Was just looking at a set of Suhr pickups yesterday and was wondering, "What does special mean?" For us magnet swapperooskis, it sounds like snake oil because we understand the differences between polished, roughcast, sandcast, degaussed, etc. I would hope Suhr wouldnt hide behind marketing and would be able to tell us. On the other hand, the amount of guitarists I meet that are afraid to even modify anything on a guitar, let alone a magnet blows my mind. Literally had a guy buy every custom pickup to try out and I told him I would give him all the other magnets to swap....if he just bought one. He rather spend the money. Guess, good for Seymour lol

I did see a guy recently on reverb selling magnets for 30 bucks a pop. Says they are US sourced and manufactured.
