Alnico staple and a dynasonic

I have always wanted a telecaster so I am thinking of building a very unusual one. I am thinking of installing a alnico staple and a dynasonic. Any ideas and comments are welcome. I am not sure if anyone has tried this but I would think the staple in the neck position and the dynasonic in the bridge. It would be a rather strange telecaster but it would have a whole lotta alnico 5 love going for it. I am not sure if I could balance the pick ups but I think it would be worth a try. I could be crazy but it just might work.

Staple PU's, at least Duncan's, are tall and need an extra deep slot hole. Many guitars require some woodworking for them to fit.

I have a router and would start with aftermarket body and a good neck. If it didn't work out I would still have the pick ups to put in a more conventional application. But who wants conventional? I am just not sure about string spacing and weather to use a neck or bridge dynasonic to balance with the staple pick up. I appreciate any and all comments.

I have my Staples in the neck slot of LP Std's, and don't know if they'd fit in a much thinner solid body. They'd work in a hollowbody though.

I believe your concept Tele will sound amazing. I installed a pair of Dynasonics on a cheap modified semi-hollow body guitar and they sound incredible.

A regular neck position Dynasonic pickup stands approximately half an inch proud of the body. A regular Telecaster body, screwed-in neck and flush mounted bridge combination will not allow enough clearance under the strings. Recessing the pickup will look ugly. Shimming the neck up really high will look clumsy.

The Fender Tele-sonic got around the problem by using metal surrounds à la Gibson LP Deluxe goof hiders.

I was thinking of starting with a twin humbucker tele and making a custom pick guard to cover the routs. I know I will have proceed carefully to be sure I get proper distance for the strings. What is the standard E string to E string spacing on a telecaster? I have several hollow and semi hollow bodies already. I also thought of using one of the new Guild M-75 built in Korea but that still leaves me short on a Telecaster. I am still in the planning stages. I may just buy the pick ups and work from there, like I said I can always find a use for the pick ups.

Thought about using a tv Jones Magna'Tron or T'armond? Those come in routes which could be recessed fairly easily. In fact, you could start with a dual p90 route and use p90 shaped versions of each.

That is one of the things I had thought about and it would make the build a lot easier. I assume the p-90 versions have the same tone as the standard versions. My final question would be whether to use bridge or neck versions of either pick up to get a balanced output. I have an E-mail into the custom shop to answer that question. My other thought would be to by a matched set of each style pick up. It wouldn't be a real problem to have a set of each laying around to experiment with.

Just to be clear, I'd put the staple in the neck and Sonic in the bridge.

I had a Magnatron in my 5120 and it was a GREAT sounding pup. It didn't sound like old sonics, not that I personally have one to A/B with, but it definitely had it's own twang-thang goin on.

BTW, what year power wagon?

I almost bought a Gertsch Country Club and a set of Duncan Dynasonics but I have a few hollowbodys and semi-hollow guitars and I have always thought I should have a Telecaster. I sold my 91 Stratocaster last year so I think it's time for a Telecaster. it sounds like a good platform for some experimentation with pick ups. The staple in the neck and the Dynasonic in the bridge is the idea but getting them balanced may be the problem, I don't know. This would be my first DYI build. Not much to lose! I have several Power Wagons from WW2 trucks to late 50"s and 60's truck to a 1969 W300 1 Ton 4 wheel drive with a utility box and pop up Alaskan camper. It only gets 9 MPG with a big block but she is paid for!

The magna'tron sounded pretty similar to my 1964 dynasonic I used to have. I think the T-armond would volume balance better though.
