Hey boys, I have to get some magnets from Addition Fx. I have seen that alnico V unoriented is polished. Is there in a rough cast shape too?

Re: Alnico V unoriented

Yes there is, I have a rough cast UOA5 and it dulled the highs too much for me and I went with the polished and it leveled everything out.

Re: Alnico V unoriented

Marco, Dennis won't ship overseas anymore. You need a friend in the States to buy from him and send the stuff to you.

DARN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've always been into tweaking A5 C5's. From 59/C5 hybrid, to 15.3K C5, degaussed, to UOA5. Next is roughcast.

Are you talking about a regular polished magnet, or unoriented polished?

This is a fun subject, because tweaking Alnico 5 in small increments like this results in pickups that would be great production pickups. I like the Brobucker too, and have thought of something like a C5/59 hybrid with matched coils, 42/43 coils, and the pickup is 11.3K with a roughcast A5 magnet.

My guess is: as he shipped with no tracking, many "smart guys" complained of not receiving the order as he couldn't verify wether they'd actually received the package or not, so he had to send it again for free. Of course, these dishonest people ruined it for the rest of us Europeans.

There's a service for italians that give you an US address to send the package, then they send it to Italy for an expensive fee. Depending on what you're getting it may or it may not be convenient for you, that's you to decide.

Look if you can find a similar service for Germany, or open a business account with say, DHL or UPS and they'll do all the work for you... for an expensive fee, of course! ;)

Minimum shipment fee for Europe is $ 30.00 (about € 22,00) at Stew Mac (with DHL), so the other services (Consegnato.com minimum is € 16,00) don't look so bad after all.

HTH,

I've been sending surplus magnets overseas to forum members for a while, no charge for magnets or shipping (all in the name of international relations!). I think I've sent them to 10 countries now. But my supply of surplus is getting low (actually, I always buy extra so I could give some away). I just sent off my last spare UOA5's last week.

Re: Alnico V unoriented

Didn't want to start a new topic, but just wanted to ask some questions..

Addiction-FX has 3 varieties of Alnico Vs; polished/unpolished, smooth/rough, and the mighty unoriented. I've dealt with rough, polished, and RCUO.... but does anyone have some experience with unpolished, smooth, sand cast unoriented? what's the difference?

Do you know someone else who sells unoriented A5s?

Re: Alnico V unoriented

All three of the UOA5's I've gotten from AddictionFX are rough. I can't remember if I ordered them like that or they just came that way. Maybe a polished one would be better for the neck, but in the bridge, I like the complexity that the roughness adds.

Re: Alnico V unoriented

There is also Throbak for mags.

Cast is how mags are made, but for consistency in shape a lot of mags are then ground down and polished. The raw look is rough and patchy, and can be a bit oversized. Typically the faces stay that way, but the long sides are ground down so there is contact with the poles.
Rough looks like a sandblasted surface, but is of regualar dimensions.

Re: Alnico V unoriented

I emailed addictionffx a couple of days ago, he will post to Europe but only in bulk at about 100 pieces as the shipping is way too high for a handful of mags
