Alright... change of plans... options as to what to do with a push-pull

Soooooo... the black HS pickguard I ordered for my Strat did not fit. I don't want to fill and redrill the holes. It would be more trouble than it's worth since I'd be stuck using that pickguard (which even if I did, would still fit the guitar kinda funny since the cutout for the neck is kinda off), so I just returned it on Amazon.

So right now, I've got an Hxx pickguard in there. I'm debating what I can do to make it have some more sounds.

I know the D Activator has mismatched coils, so it sound pretty good split since it won't lose as much output if I split to the hotter coil as a symmetrical wind would. But also... parallel might be an option too, right? Which of the two would lose less output? Which would sound more different from the regular series D-Ac?

Is there anything else I could do with the D-Ac? Maybe a preamp of sorts? A boost? Something interesting? Big downside I see to that is that almost all the EMG preamps/boosts/EQ's run on 250K pots, and I certainly don't want to load down the D-Ac.

Opinions?

Thanks!

Using the pickguard as is
don't fill the holes that the guard will cover anyways

That's like having to fill the middle pickup route

Just OCD

If no one can see them then who cares?

Oh and what was the question again

Push pull ?

Five way switch?

Out of phase for one of the pickups

No no, I think you misread me.

The HS pickguard I ordered didn't fit my Strat, so I sent it back. It's OK, I don't even have a neck pickup to use right now.

Right now, I have an H (nothing else) pickguard with one control.

I don't want to cut anything. I just want to drop a push pull pot to replace the standard pot in there to be able to make the guitar pack a "hidden" sound in there as opposed to being a single-volume single-pickup guitar.

Secret Agent neck pickup and have the push/pull toggle between pickups? It wouldn't be very practical, but it would be cool.

Would I be able to have that with a single push pull knob? I don't want to drill the pickguard for more than one control.
I see. No a spin o split requires its own pot. I can't think of anything to use on the push pull besides parallel. Don't you always use the distortion box? Parallel is hum cancelling so I'd recommend that over split.

I was actually reading into that pickup yesterday... but I read it's pretty unbalanced even with the stock Tele pickup. I don't think it would be much good with a D Activator. I'd love for it to work, but I suspect in order for it to work, I'd need something way more overwound than a secret agent.

99.9% of the time, yes. That's why I figured maybe a boost or something cool like that would be more useful.

I don't really *need* anything other than a bridge pickup and a way to turn it off... but it's cool to have more stuff available there. I mean, my Gibson has a neck pickup. I figure it would be cool if my Fender had a second or third sound as well.

Yeah, I'm debating wether parallel or split to the hotter coil of the two. Right now, I have it facing the bridge position, so I bet it would be extra twangy.
