Seriously, though, sometimes you just want to milk a $12 pedal for as much fun as you can squeeze out of it. Sometimes that means ridiculous guessing games. Sometimes it means duct taping it to an old Stomper Water Demon and chasing the cat with it. I guess if bad came to worse, you could play through it. But that's generally a last resort where gear and limited time are involved. I'm painting the spare bedroom right now; playing is the last thing I have time for. It definitely takes a back seat to checking out Brooks Wheelan's photos of Europe on Instagram.
Look, first of all, I don't know where some of you are getting this stuff. What I said was pretty simple and you guys are reading all kinds of crap into it that isn't there. I never said that cheap gear can't be exciting or that the only thing worthy of praise is expensive gear. The whole remark about the Peavey Bandit was just to illustrate that the threads usually bring nothing new to the table.
The second thing is that I never told anyone to stop posting those kinds of threads. All I said was that there are too many of them lately and the forum could use better quality threads in my opinion. I don't know where you people are inferring your information from but some of you have gone on a tangent without even understanding the basic language I actually used.
Third, most have taken this thread way too seriously. It wasn't intended to insult people or spoil anyone's fun, and if you actually read what I said then you should be able to get that.
There are two three basic reasons for this:
1. Probably the primary reason is because many people on this forum are so quick to join in hanging people like me who have differing opinions. I have found this in several instances to be because my political views do not conform to the mainstream political views of this forum. Another reason for it is because I don't sugarcoat things which makes it easy for people to take offense. Rather than trying to understand what I actually said most of the time, some people just go off on it anyway because it is in their nature to do so. Even a few seem to score brownie points for it.
2. Some people who responded negatively to my post have posted similar threads before, and because of their own demeanor, automatically perceive it very negatively. What I actually said really wasn't that bad, but it's not hard to get the witch hunt going because they're like "Hey it's Ubermetaldood. That guy is a dooshbag (pun) so let's all get together an troll him." (not that people actually get together and plan that, but that's kind of the mentality).
3. Well, this reason I'm sure will cause a stir, but it's apparently a fact... low reading comprehension. Now, I've been guilty in the past of reading stuff on my little cellphone screen and not seeing the whole thing, but I'm quick to admit if I misread something. Certainly that happens to the smartest people. Whether that has been the reason for misconceptions I wouldn't know because no one has admitted misreading it yet. For the rest, well let's face it, when you're reading stuff into it that just isn't there then there's obviously a processing error. When you read something and wonder if something is being implied, you should seek clarification rather than just making assumptions. The funny thing is that even if I try to clarify something, some of you are just intent on running with those assumptions for whatever reason and it leads to more followers joining the hunt.
Therefore, I'm wasn't trying to ruin anyone's fun. In fact, I wasn't even being that serious to begin with. If you thought I was serious, you should have asked before going off assuming that I was trying to crap in your cereal bowls. No, I obviously wasn't trying to ruin anyone's camaraderie-building or gear celebration.
Some of you might hate to hear this, but it's the truth (doesn't apply to everyone of course). If you don't like it then you either can't handle the truth or you just want to perpetuate this Ubermetaldood vs. the forum crap so your little clique has someone to pick on.
That's the gist of it man.
I am just having fun on the internet. Don't think too hard about my posts. I have nothing but love and respect for every single member of the human race that doesn't try to steal my **** or hurt my family. Especially dudes who are as into heavy music and Orange amplification as I am.
