Re: Alright, Who's Put In Their Custom UGD Pickups?

I saw the result of one such incident... pickup wire about half an inch out to either side. Wonder how that would sound... (nevermind trying to get it to fit in a guitar)

Stew Mac sells a whole humbucker kit for $27, $24 if you buy 6 or more. You can get the same coil wire for about a third of the price elsewhere, some place called MWS a cat told me about. I'm still waiting for the contact info from him.

The most costly part (other than the machine) will be blowing a bunch of coil wire learning how to do it right.

Be careful if you buy the material from Stew Mac

There is a parts review at this site under StewMac humbucker parts review.

I dropped my P90 twice while I was messing with it Pretty funny, but MJ just killed me with *that* look. I have even more respect for her now with all the extreme patience she exhibited that day. Unbelievable patience.

I still haven't had time to install my new P90 neck yet. Hopefully in the next few days.

Do you have any close up pictures? It seems pretty interesting.

Re: Alright, Who's Put In Their Custom UGD Pickups?

You guys have inspired me to build a coil winder. I started it today.

Re: Alright, Who's Put In Their Custom UGD Pickups?

I've been looking those up while I should be doing programming in class. Let us know how it goes.

Me..."a JB on two single coils"
MJ... "Wait I'll get to you."

I can get pictures, but what do you want to see? the Avatar is the guitar I am putting it into. I stripped the srcews getting the out ones out. I am getting new screws tomorrow. the old pups we epoxy potted, and any one at the jam know it had no tone at all.

Re: Alright, Who's Put In Their Custom UGD Pickups?

Isn't anyone going to post clips on the clips and tips page?

Re: Alright, Who's Put In Their Custom UGD Pickups?

I installed my overwound CC. It sounds a lot warmer and fuller than the JB I had in there.

But seriously, I would like to know how your experiments worked out.

I totally agree, need to have another UGD so my wife and I can go.

Re: Alright, Who's Put In Their Custom UGD Pickups?

Well I finally got mine install last night. And was trying to use the same strings, cause they were not to old, when the E string broke, late. So I am restinging tonight and will have a before and after clip, butchering Blackdog. :saeek: :blackeye:
Finnaly plugged them in and they sound so good. wow what a difference pickups make. Now I got to put a set of vintage rails in the neck :saeek:

Mine was that SDECO 2 in the list there. I threw it into my heritage LP pronto as soon as I got home. It's wonderful! Basically, it's a pup in between a Seth and a CC with a bit more low end growl. the output level works great for my rig - hot enough to drive, but not so hot as to get dark or overly percussive! I highly recommend one for you classic/hard rock/blues guys out there with LPs that just can't seem to get the right tone!

Re: Alright, Who's Put In Their Custom UGD Pickups?

I'm really loving my UGD pickup. It's an overwound classic stack with the twangbanger bottom plate. I've played live with it twice now and its everything I wanted, at least for now. Sounds like a tele Hot Lead pickup, without the hum. I mentioned on the first page of this thread, that it was a little microphonic, well it got worse, so, I pulled it out, this weekend, and cleaned the wax off between the bobbin and bottom plate, and put a thin layer of silicone. That fixed it right up. Also, I liked this pickup so much, I got a stock one, off ebay, for my middle position. So, now I have about the most versatile hum free strat ever. I'm planning to add a split/parallel/series switch next week, just too see if I can use the other sounds.
