Alternative 8 in a metal mix

well im glad i decided to get this pickup again.
i knew it could be the closest thing imo to a full organic passive EMG style tone!
at first when i put it into some of the old mixes were i had other pickups the first thing i noticed was it didnt
have the bass wubby speaker talk low end that i heard very prominently in say the super distortion & sh-5.
this pickup has all the bad parts of the signal taken out! it didnt sound right at first because i wasnt dealing with a massive low end associated with bassy ceramic style pickups.
i love how i can crank the treble on my amp and the pickup resists getting all white noisey and overall losing signal clarity.
the low end is nice cause i can add low end on my amp and it doesnt get all speaker talky in that range.
the leads and so fat! they give out the same thickness at all times now matter how hard im picking.
the rhythm's are a sleeper among metal guys i think. you cant setup your amp to the pickups like i mentioned and expect the alt8 to just sound like the rest of them. its special and needs a little more ear for height and overall amp sound.
i hope this clip does it justice cause its an amazing achievement by seymour to get a alnico 8 to sound thick and clear without the regular scratchy/grating upper mids it sometimes gives to other pickups.
cleans, i dont need them, id rather use neck pickup for that.

peace!

yes sir the messiah 1 impulse

Cool! Those are the ones advertised as "mix ready?" (which is kind of strange because you'll have to make adjustments for each drum, bass and vocal sounds accompanying it in the mix). I love the way you have it dialed in! The low notes sound lower than they are, the low Bb actually having as much girth as a clean Bb.

It's as though all this time every band with drop tunings or 7 strings has never had a beefy enough sound by comparison...

Impulses are great, but the sound and satisfaction level of having a cabinet and mic set up in the ISO room with that same timbre from the monitors is unbeatable!

Understandably the appeal of impulses for demos is definitely there. Recording great sounding distorted electric guitar with mics is almost as much as a ginormous PITA than recording acoustic drums.

The latest album I'm producing for a client is all organic mic'ing and it was no tea-party getting record worthy sounds, but that's half the fun!

the way i see it nowadays is ive stressed out enough in the past 5 years getting guitar tones, and since im mostly an electronic industrial musician i view guitars as another instrument and im delightfully happy to get right to a great guitar tone, and trust me its not like the impulse or impulses are doing all the work by any stretch, the volume levels and eq upon those levels is still hit or miss. i could of pretty much used any impulse in this situation and it would of worked 95% as well or even better. the messiah was done for them for this particular video, kinda like i was sponsored. ive tried micing cabs in the past and man the level of knowledge and extra gear required was far beyond what i cared. i quickly realized that if impulses are even 80% as good im sold! i have a small house and having a 4x12 and mics always setup was not fun for awhile there. glad to minimize and still get great results! i also like to think im really great at hearing preamp signal from amps and how to craft it into these kinda sounds, its not just plug and play. i know your right about having a perfect setup sm57 is money!
impulses are unbeatable to me probably in my lifetime. :)
