Well, finally ordered the SH-15. The local SD dealer were out of them. I'll post up my thoughts on it after I've played around with it. I might even do some old school death metal sound clips after I've given it proper time to settle in

Put an A8 magnet in my 59/Custom and it sounds pretty good! Can't wait to try the Alternative 8. I'll get it tomorrow and put it in on Thursday, most likely.

Just put the Alternative 8 in and I think that pretty much did the trick. It's less boomy than the 59/Custom Hybrid (with and without the A8 mag) and really thick and gnarly. I've only played with it through my practice rig, but I've already made a short recording with it and I'm really excited about it. Thanks for all the suggestions, folks!

I'm a late-comer on this thread, but I wanted to add my 2 cents worth for the Alt 8. I've had one in my LP for a half year now and love the warm, rich, thick but articulate tone.

Like dvanburen, I too believe that the Custom8 is the best of the Customs and have had it in several guitars (amazing in an SG).

I think you'll be very happy with the Alt 8. Definitely a better choice than actives.
