Alternative brands to Gibson

Re: Alternative brands to Gibson

Why would someone just take all the hardware off, and out of, an otherwise fine Les Paul, and then ultimately sell it like that?
I agree, DreX...seems kind of ridiculous that they stripped it down for sale--no doubt it was a fine axe as is, and I'm sure I would have loved it just way it left the factory.

I wonder if the seller got more money from selling all the parts of a Les Paul individually rather than selling it intact. Sometimes that happens with used cars.

Re: Alternative brands to Gibson

Many guitars can be worth more in parts than as whole. It's pretty common in certain circles.

The Stratosphere is well known even here for being a business involved in parting out guitars. We've had many threads on it......it should come as a surprise no nobody here who pays attention.

Please do not escalate a conflict by blowing such a non-issue out of proportion.

It's The Stratosphere. That's their entire business.

Agreed.

BTW, somebody above said that Duff McKagan has been playing Burny LPs. I can't find it now, but I remember seeing a few pics of him with a white Edwards, too.

Re: Alternative brands to Gibson

Ibanez has the ARZ model that's close but with an ebony fretboard. May give them a try if I can find one in stock local at Guitar Center.

+1. Solid build, great sound, great sustain, + you won't cry over the money you spent. This applies to the normal versions. Prestige is close to the Gibson price-wise.

Re: Alternative brands to Gibson

Try an Edwards I understand they come with Duncans as standard.
I have a tokai 335 it's as good as my Gibson LP it has a unique fat neck coupled with very narrow string spacing, great for barre chords but takes a while to get used to.

Re: Alternative brands to Gibson

There is no alternative to a Gibson Les Paul.
There may be some who disagree with you, and not just for economic reasons.

Just as the Strat and Tele set the templates for single-coil guitars, so did the Gibson LP for twin humbuckers.

Just as many flavors as ice cream from your favorite market. One of them may not be to your taste, but someone else will be eating it in the store freezer with a spoon.

Re: Alternative brands to Gibson

Considering LP tone and good construction (but not feel, these are different), these came to my mind first:

- Yamaha SG2000
- Ibanez Artist MIJ
- Eclipse from ESP and its subsidiaries
- Tokai Love Rock (well, that is not so different if not identical with a good '60s LP design)

Re: Alternative brands to Gibson

Ibanez ARZ kick ass. I would not give away mine (made in China) for an original LP.

have you ever tried a Huber? those puppies are built with better materials, to higher standards and blow a Gibson straight out of the water.

Re: Alternative brands to Gibson

My neighbour has a Hagstrom Super Swede. Gorgeous, albeit heavy, guitar! Plays like a dream.
