Am I Crazy for wanting to...

Re: Am I Crazy for wanting to...

It's happened. and Dang! It's amazing. I love it!!!

I used it through the stock 12" speaker first, but now I have it plugged into my Mesa/Boogie 2X12, giving it a fuller, darker sound. It's great. I'm gettin' all kinds of amazing tones right now with my pedals, and using the FAT switch as a boost (it's a GREAT boost). I'm very happy with it right now!!!

... and I'm gettin' a couple EMG SA's to put in the HM strat this weekend, so the tone just keepin' comin' and comin'!!! :)

sweet man...maybe that's the answer for me...maybe i should have a 2x12 cab built for it!?

glad you're liking it!

Re: Am I Crazy for wanting to...

Hoss: My 2X12 is a very big 2X12, almost as big as some 4X12's so it's a great cabinet. It definitely helps out the Blues Jr. if you get a chance sometime I think you should at least try pluggin' one into an extension cab.

Fenders aren't gain machines, but with pedals, it's amazing just how much you can coax out of them. Have fun with it!

BIG +1

i think a lot of times we lose sight of the fact that if not for the fender bassman, marshall & mesa would not exist

It has been said often that the best way to start building your tone is with an amplifier capable of generate good cleans.

Re: Am I Crazy for wanting to...

Fifteen watts is still plenty loud for small to medium-sized gigs.

true, and considering I am an advocate of the belief that you only need one speaker to play live ... you guys may have just given me serious gas!!!

Kac, how are you getting high gain out of it? just killing it with the DS-1 and the Tube Screamer?

I'm into the tone of the Blues Junior as well. Check out this thread to see what I was comparing this little guy with! It's got great tone, and for the price (if I weren't already buying another amp) I'd probably have one of these in my music room right now. They're only $400, which is great for what these things can do.

i don't know how "high gain" you want to go with it...but my CM pedal makes my B Jr scream pretty seriously and i get some really, good crunch for rhythm playing. i mic mine through a PA and i play with a heavy handed dynamic drummer and last sunday night i was cutting through the mix like nobody's business!!! my wife even commented on how good i sounded and she never voluntarily says stuff like that!

Re: Am I Crazy for wanting to...

I'd like to get it in the realm of deftones (surprised?), soulfly, thrice (artist in the ambulance era), etc. heavy, yet defined.

also, i've read that people have put vintage 30's in their BJ's. has anyone tried it?

*hides in the corner for hijacking Kac's thread*

Re: Am I Crazy for wanting to...

People have. yes, even people on this forum. I would definitely consider doing that myself if I didn't already play the BJ through an extension cabinet.

hijack all ya want!

have you gotten that kind of gain out of your set-up? I'm considering a Bad Monkey as my "tube screamer" replacement (only because people on here have been giving WONDERFUL reviews of it, gotta try myself).

Re: Am I Crazy for wanting to...

They have them at C&M Music in Laffy. That's where I test drove one. Great pedal. Oh, yes...there is a sale on Friday and Saturday.:D

Re: Am I Crazy for wanting to...

I"m not really familiar with the bands you mentioned, but I've gotten quite a bit of gain through my rig.
