So for a couple years now I've had 2 Les Paul Customs. One is a sunburst and the other black. I always thought i wanted one but lately they're just not doing it for me. They sound great but soloing is a bit of a pain as access to the 17th fret and higher is a bit limited because of the thickness of the set neck joint. I've been thinking for some time to sell them both and take that money and put it towards either another guitar or maybe upgrading my amp or buying another amp. Am I crazy? I seem to want to play my two American BC Riches more than my Les Pauls. Just looking for second opinions on this.

Re: Am I crazy?

I don't own one, but that's one reason I never liked LP's..upper fret access..and I don't really like how the backs of the necks are painted....just my opinion though!

Re: Am I crazy?

I owned a Les Pual for about two years and slod it because I preferred my Strat - he had a nice sound and I used on some songs when I was giging, but the fat neck just didn't do it for me.

Re: Am I crazy?

The only reason I'd think you were crazy was for getting guitars (expensive ones at that) that you didn't like. The reason there are so many guitars, so many different types of construction, so many different woods and such is because everyone has different tastes and needs. LPs work great for me- but I don't particularly like Customs. To each their own!

Re: Am I crazy?

When I was in highschool a friend of mine had an early 80s (im guessing) LP Custom. I loved it. For years I wanted one but couldn't justify spending the $2500 minimum for buying them. Then a friend sold me his for $700 in 2002 and a few months later I landed another deal on a black one for $2000 new. They were great guitars but never really felt like what I remembered a LP Custom feeling like. I haven't really played them much and eventually I guess I just fell out of love with them. I have two American BC Riches that I am just simply ga ga over. After playing the Customs its like a vacation for my hand to play the Riches. Maybe I'm insane. I'm sure i'll be singing a different tune in a few years about these Riches.
