Am I wrong to be Jonesin' for a Micro-Stack?

So I do the pawn-shop stroll today. I see a Marshall Micro-Stack in excellent condition for about 185. I'm thinking... I don't need this amp, my amp sounds much better. But I just want one because it just looks cool and sounds pretty alright.

I'm just sayin...

I wouldn't advise you to :fingersx:
They're the MG-series solid-state 15 watt heads with two 1x8-cabs.

Oh but its beautiful to just walk around and shred to people. I was thinking clip the half stack version on one side and a sd-1 on the other.

Yeah, it's one of those. It would be a full-on stack for my 4-year old.

The MG wasn't the only micro-stack. There was the Lead 12 micro-stack and Lead 15 (I think that's what it was) prior to the MG. Although the Lead 12 stack goes for more than double what a MG would.

Those MG micro stacks aren't that bad. With the closed-back cabs those speakers throw pretty good. For a small apartment, small room, or just lack of space period, they're not bad to have around.

I remember seeing those goofy mini-stacks in high school. Some band had them for a talent show and both guitar players had two of the cabs that had like 1 x 12 in them.

They sounded god-awful...that I do remember. But from where I was sitting it was far enough back and there was enough forced perspective it looked like the guys on stage were 10 feet tall. Very surreal.

I always thought they looked cool. I love the cabinets. I've always wanted two of them for a stereo rig, but you can't really find two straights or two slanteds together so they'd look and sound strange next to eachother. But they'd make good guitar monitors for a direct rig, or even if you had your miked 12" speakers parked offstage for space. Are we sure they're 8"s? I thought they were 10"s. If so, you could get a nice vintage Celestion style 10 in there.

Definitely don't feel guilty if you get it. Women spend that much on shoes and purses they don't need all the time. I'm not calling you a girl, but sometimes it helps to play the double standard card. :laugh2:

The cabs have a 10" speaker.

I have a Lead 12 combo and would love to be able to get the micro-stack version.

They're a smart idea. Too bad the amp is crap. I can't stand Marshall's low end offerings. Brands like Laney, Peavey and Traynor wipe the floor with them in that category. Hell, even Fender has some really cool small amps, though they tend to be a bit overpriced.

Yeah, it's one of those. It would be a full-on stack for my 4-year old.

Personally, I think for this use... if you can find it in your budget - it would be perfect. A lot of fun for him.

If you want a mini stack and some real sound coming from it, go for something like this:
Engl Screamer 50 1x12 Combo +Engl 1x12 Extension cab.
That stack looks awesome and has tone for days.

One of my friends in high school had the Lead 12 version, I think.
This was back in 1990. I remember it sounded pretty cool, and looked great. I always wanted one, but i've heard the MG series is pretty much a one trick pony.
