American "voiced" amp, with British "voiced" extension cab???

Re: American "voiced" amp, with British "voiced" extension cab???

It's just a way of creating a unique tone. My head is a Bassman copy, which I run into Eminence Red Coats sometimes.

It has 4el34's, SS preamp with 1ea. 12ax7 tube acting as an inverter. At least that is what I can gather from a MM web site. I saw where around 77 MM switched from the 12AX7 to an all SS preamp, eliminating the inverter tube.

Thanks for the tip on the EMIs. Is the Wizard EMI's version of the G12H?

Yes it is.

To answer your early Brit vs American amp definition... This is applicable for the HI-FI corfsniffer and the guitar amp side of things... American is bright, immediate, upfront, exciting. British, in relation, is darker, mellower, laid back, bit more linear.

See, how the corksniffer comes out when talking about these nuanced things. Ever heard wine heads talk about the bass note and overtones of burnt rubber and chocolate, with a nose of ripe raisin?

Gotcha More-Gear-Than-Skill, makes sense now. Tornado vs Hurricane:smokin:

BTW: Could I get some clairifcation on the speaker deal? Besides the G12H/V30 combo, what other combo would give me a distinctly "different" sounding cab from the THs in the MM, that would complment rather than compete :rocket: with them for airspace?

Off topic, but BOONIE! What the heck is going on man? Long time, no post! Good to see hanging around again man. Don't be a stranger.

Hey Scott, good to hear from you! Still in Texas and will probably stay here.
Still working out some of the problems I told you about, but decided I wasn't going to let that interfere with the guitar side of my life any more.
Found a guy in Austin that got my MM amp running and I go to pick it up tomorrow. All that time I spent on the SDUGF while in Iraq, got me to thinking about different ideas to expand on what I have, rather than getting some thing new. I was ready to look at new amps, but since the MM got resurrected, I thought I would experiment with it for a while.

Looks like your Celtics are really taking off! Glad to hear it.

Glad you're home and safe. Thanks for putting your butt on the line for all of us. I hope everyone that reads this appreciates it as much as I do.

Thanks Scott, that means a lot to me.

It is good to be back. If your still at the same location, maybe once it dries up around here, we can link up and tip a few.:fingersx:

For all the forum brothers, old and new:usa2:

This forum helped keep me sain :smokin: while I was over in the big Kitty Litter box.

Thanks

Boonierat - My suggestion is to take the amp to a guitar store and run it cranked through as many cabs as you can while documenting what fits best with what. See what fits your tastebuds.

That new Jensen Raven sure does look interesting. Word has it (from ScottF) that it's a louder alnico blue with way better wattage handling. Alnico blues are gorgeous sounding speakers that would retain a bit of the shimmery fender side of the spectrum, but would break up in a distinctly sweet british way when pushed. 100 watts power handling would make it cover almost anything your amp could dish out (though yours is 130 watts and therefore this speaker should either not be cranked past halfway or so if you run a single raven at a time. I wonder how the Raven would sound with the Vintage 30 of mine. Maybe make a decent Vox combo that approximates the better british tones and sparkle up the clean models a bit on my valvetronix amps. The amp seems to run a tad dark unless it's cranked. It would be good to add a tad more sparkle to it.
