Amount of contacts on a 4 way switch

Re: Amount of contacts on a 4 way switch

It kind of looks like two tandem, 4-way switches -- four inputs and one output on each. So, ten contacts.

Re: Amount of contacts on a 4 way switch

so, what does that mean exactly? would it work for this?

the D is the Artec QDD2, and the S is the pickup switch.
1st position, neck PU is distorted, 2nd they're both distorted, 3rd-bridge gets distortion, 4th-clean.

also, when it says "Concentric Stacked Knob Set" does that mean there are 2 knobs?

Re: Amount of contacts on a 4 way switch

The 4-way selector switch offers four pairs of discreet input terminals. These are fed to two permanently in-circuit output terminals. IMO, this type of switch is wrong for your design.

It means there's a knob for one function and a ring outside/under it for the second function -- like an EMG active bass/treble control.

Re: Amount of contacts on a 4 way switch

My first suggestion is that you provide a clear schematic diagram of the pre-modifications circuit of your guitar. Then, it should become clearer as to where the multi-mode routing switch needs to go in the modified circuit.

EDIT: My second suggestion is to simply rewire your guitar for stereo outputs. Run each pickup to its own overdrive/distortion pedal and recombine the signals into your amplifier. At least, that way, you have some hope of balancing the clean and distorted signal levels accurately.

no, i got that, and i know what concentric knobs do, but does the "set" mean that there are 2? this is also from allparts.

will do.

Re: Amount of contacts on a 4 way switch

so this is what the regular wiring will look like, but I want to put in the qdd2 along with the possibility to turn the distortion on/off for either pickup for switching between lead and rhythm. I could use 2 on/on switches, but if i could keep it to 1 switch, that would be wonderful.

Re: Amount of contacts on a 4 way switch

Aha. I am beginning to grasp the problem. Your flow chart style diagram speaks volumes.

The switching for routing each pickup through a distortion pre-amplifier device requires that the signals are processed BEFORE reaching the selector switch.

IMO, it would be much easier to get the control you require using a "Brian May" style array of DPDT on/on switches.

Four. On/off for each PU. On/off per PU to direct its signal to the Artec distortion circuit.

Typically, these would feed a master volume, master tone control set up.

Re: Amount of contacts on a 4 way switch

got the switches today, and i really don't want to have four on the guitar. can i have 2 on/on dpdt switches and 1 regular switchmaster pickup selector?
