Re: Amp help - Fender Princeton 65 solid state one

Almost all Solid State Fenders are awesome, & that particular model is especially awesome!!! The clean tone is to die for & you won't find a better pedal platform! Pound for pound & dollar for dollar they lay most valve amp's down on their backs! I own some very expensive and iconic tube amplifiers but I still plug into my S.S. Princeton Chorus & Stage 1000 all the time for those very reasons....

I'm doing alot of work currently on a Fender M80 combo from 1990...The clean channel is very nice..The OD channel I'm still tweaking but it's already 100% better than it was stock.

Fender knows how to get great clean tones and they are always great platforms for pedals.

Re: Amp help - Fender Princeton 65 solid state one

Had one for a couple years awhile back. The clean channel is amazing - it is clear and loud. The gain channel with the stock speaker didn't impress me.

There are two things that come mind about this amp. First, the amp is bright and the clean channel only has bass and treble controls. To help smooth the amp, I used my trusty fish and chips eq. It worked wonders. Second, the stock speaker is, well I remember it being a Jensen and didn't care for it. I talked to a local shop and bought a used Emmi Legend speaker and no I don't remember which one. It did help smooth out the highs and give the bass some life.

Made a world class screw up by selling it so I could buy a Marshall Haze. Really wish I still had the Princeton.

And if you run across a Princeton Chorus, I agree, those amps are magic.

Unfortunately it's another one that I've got to dump before we have our new baby. I was going to try to sell it locally to avoid shipping it but if anyone on here wants it P.M. me, I'll let it go cheap...

Is it the first generation, non-DSP Dyna Touch series you're referring to? I owned that amp from 1999-2001. Sold it to get a Line 6 POD. It had that perfect clean tone with a bit of reverb, and it was really touch-sensitive. It's one of those pieces of gear that I kick myself for letting go of. I didn't care for the overdrive as much as the clean. The clean was smoother than smooth, like being in a dream state.
