Amp Porn - Marshall Fender Soldano, etc.

Re: Amp Porn - Marshall Fender Soldano, etc.

I'm impressed by the inside of the Hiwatts.

Yes, not surprisingly, the Hiwatt wiring is the most intelligently designed.

In the PCB category, I would give Soldano the win. Big fat traces, wires kept short and neat, and no exterior components stuck to the board.

The Matchless looks like a junior high school science project.

Thanks to Gearjoneser for the heads up on how to attach pics!!! All the best!!
I'll bet you can play some wicked slide guitar on those P90's. very cool red guitar:bigok:

Re: Amp Porn - Marshall Fender Soldano, etc.

Hi Philthis, thanks.... yeah it's a cool and versatile git, but I have to admit I'm NOT very good with a slide... in fact I only got one last December!! It's a very soulful piece of wood though, although it's NOT chambered it is very resonant and loud when played unplugged. Never seen another either.

Re: Amp Porn - Marshall Fender Soldano, etc.

get the nikes.....off.....the awesome.....head

now we just need a weasly looking fellow to say "sorry, just wanted to feel the power between my....or under my legs"

Re: Amp Porn - Marshall Fender Soldano, etc.

the inside of that cornford amp is pretty sick...

the soldano is easily the best of the pcb amps but i have to give mesa some serious credit for their stuff. mesa is known for being extremely reliable and it takes some serious manufacturing q.c. to get that reputation when the amps are that complicated.

Re: Amp Porn - Marshall Fender Soldano, etc.

Here's the innards of my Marshall JCM900 MkIII 2100. The transformer to the right is the power tranny that needs to be replaced. The place I took it too for an estimate left the wires disconnected so it's gonna be fun figuring out what goes where when the time comes. It's a pretty clean amp actually and pretty easy to get around. Not as cleanly done as others in this thread but that's ok by me. I don't see the insides while playing. :)

Aden, just talk direct to Paul Cornford (owner obviously... ha ha or Martin Kidd .. he builds them). www.cornfordamps.com
They are truely great guys who will help however they can. Incidently, Guthrie Govan uses Cornford, mainly a Hellcat... but try to find sites with him on... he's awesome. Infact, there's a USA (i think) site called Tone Merchants with clips on (there's a link on the site)... very cool!

Now I'm GASing for a Cornford, too. They look amazing!

Here is their Dealers' List

So many manufactured goods LOOK good, but open them up and they are pure junk. This happens a lot with electronic goods.

I tend to believe that if an amp manufacturer takes great care in crafting something that will be mostly unseen, then there is a high probability that they also care about component selection, quality control, customer satisfaction, etc.

Umm,

#1... while Hiwatts are beautiful inside, most older Traynor's have about the same to attention to detail

#2.. this is one of only 3 Matchless 100w known to exist, not pretty, but effective...

#3.. just FWIW, some pics of forum members amps...

#4.. PCB amps, when properly designed, (Diezel, Bogner, etc) have a failure rate similar to that of a brick!
