Is it just me or do the other aussie guys on here feel really left out when it comes to amps. i mean they are rediculosly expensive over here it costs $5000+ aussie dollars to get a mesa triple rectifier when the american price eqivilant is just above $2000 aussie dollars. Waht is goin on:?: where is the extra part of the price tag coming in?

I don't feel left out.

I imported my own amps from the states, and have made about $5000 from importing my own gear and selling it for profit.
Though I'm getting out of the trade now, I still do it for my own gear purchases.

Well a good alternative may be ebay then all you need to really pay for is the high cost of shipping it over there, but it will still be worth it.

You have to take into consideration the difference between the american$ and the Aussie$. Then you have to add inport/export taxes and Vat. Bottom line is you need to complain to your Countries taxing policies not Boogie!

This may not be the popular answer, but I think its the primary reason why American products cost so much more in other Countries (except the UK).

By local, that was a great suggestion above! Granted none of them are probably building triple rectum fryers, but that is one solution.

If there was a good profit margin, I'd be up for having a business partnership with an Aussie. I live where resale on highend gear is at it's lowest point, so I could pile amps on a palate and ship them to Australia. As long as there's still a profit margin after taxes/tariffs/insurance, it may be worthwhile.

the engineer I work for also had a wood working business, and used to import Aussie made lathes. It wasn't worth the hassle and customs fees.

It's never as simple as it seems, either direction.

Grandor, Did you import your Dual recto and change the transformer?

While we don't have rectum fryers we have the Sherlock Fathead which from what I heard rivals all the recto's, mark's, ecstascy's, uberschalls, deizels .etc:

Or yeh we could get a Triple Rectifier for abit less used.

I imported my mark IV, my dual recto, my f-100 and my f-30 from the states.
I also got a few marshall jcm800's, a couple of vox's and about 10 other mesas for mates of mine.
Needless to say, most of my mates now either have, or desperately want a mesa.

I always had a step down transformer external to the amp, boogie wants $600 a pop for a new tranny, i think thats not worth me dropping the 20kg transformer...

Are those step down transformers safe to use and wont effect the amp in anyway? Because i was thinking of doin this but i am a bit worried about the amp being damaged. otherwise i could try and get one from europe as they use 240v there.

What kind of step down transformer did u have? how many watts could it handle?
