Amp Simulators?

I'm just moved to a place where I can't always crank my amp up. When I use the headphone jack on my amp it sounds really awful through the phones, very abrasive on the ears. I don't understand/know much about these POD thingies, or any of those type of electronics. I need something I can plug my pedalboard into, put on some headphones and jam quietly. Do you guys know of something that can help me with that? It doesn't have to be super boutique, just better quality than my headphones into the amp. I don't have alot of cash to blow. One of the main problems with the phones is that everything seems way too overdriven for the amount of volume.

Re: Amp Simulators?

I'd check out a POD xt if your just looking for an amp modeler to run pedals into. You have to be willing to spend some time tweaking to get tones you like, but its pretty easy to do with line 6's editing software. You can usually find good deals on used ones at must music stores.

Re: Amp Simulators?

I like the Vox ToneLab. It works well with my headphones, it has built-in effects, and it sounds awesome with other pedals.

Re: Amp Simulators?

Not exactly cheap but well worth the money...

I'm using this as my headphone amp: Boss Micro BR
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Boss-?sku=241152

It has a guitar input and different amp models with effects. All of the parameters are adjustable.

As an added bonus, its also an MP3 player and you can jam along to songs, even slow them down if you're trying to learn a solo.

you can record your jams easily and then later burn them to a cd.

with the right cable you can plug it into an input of a stereo, speakers for an instant guitar amp.

you can save any of your settings and recall them instantly.

When Ontario was hit with that Backout a few years back i was running my Boss Pedals into a small Berhinger Mixer that is battery powered.. a set of quality headphones... i was surprised at the sound i got! I have a POD 2.0 as well but that pedals straight into a mixer gave me a pretty cool tone!

Here is video guy using Behringer V-Amp:

pretty cool clip... the guy seems like he is a great player...

I know a local band that uses the V-Amp Pros rack style... both their guitarists use the V Amp's in a rack and they hear themselves thru the Monitors... They just plug in and go... and at the end of the night they have a little rack to load up

I've been debating getting some more of these preamps and using them into a Keyboard amp for years.... so far i have not done so but that could change very soon indeed!

Re: Amp Simulators?

Even the Tone Ports are pretty cool and cheap. Then you even record to your PC if you dont already.

Re: Amp Simulators?

id go w/ Tone Port (line 6) used. then you can record and get some good models. and trade patches with the others. cheap. f'n a I want one too!

Re: Amp Simulators?

Thanks guys. I like the low cost of the behringer, but can it download patches as well or is that just a POD thing?

Re: Amp Simulators?

The pocket POD looks like what I am searching for. Seems too good to be true though... Any horror stories with this one?

Re: Amp Simulators?

even though i just sold a pod xt i gotta say this pocket pod looks cool. i don't think it's been out long enough to have a lot of info on it. ?

if you like marshall sounds you may want to check out the vstack preamp/OD pedal. i think it's $199. but now that i think about it there isn't a headphone out on it. you'd need to run it into a mixer first.
